Not to mention it can cause all sorts of neurological damage, like tremors.

I read a bit about that. The effects you describe were from a disease called Kuru that is similar to mad cow's disease (it was in Papua New Guinea). Cannibals got sick from eating sick people, specifically their brains. There was also an autopsy done on a famous French cannibal named Tarrare and they found all kinds of problems with him (enlarged stomach, ulcers, etc.), but they couldn't be sure it was due to cannibalism or the fact that he ate a lot of things (whole birds and rats among others).

So the 'cannibalism will make you sick' hypothesis is not proven. It will land you in jail for murder (if you make the kill yourself), desecration of bodies and other such charges.

I only know about it because of popular media. The Book of Eli and Bones both covered it.

I figured cannibalism was just like eating any other form of flesh from any other type of animal. I don't see how it would cause any medical conditions to happen unless the person you are eating is sick, just like if you are eating a sick animal.

Sure. You'll get sent to a psychiatric hospital instead. Some people don't realize that the insanity plea doesn't let you walk off free. You go to hospital and stay there until you are deemed cured/no longer a danger to others.

I'm guessing that is dependant on what country/state you are in.

cause human and animals are different by a lot... hell eating "healthy" can be bad for you. A bear has flesh... but it may guve ya rabies

Isn't the risk with cannibalism prion diseases? Source: pop culture not actual science so I don't actually know.

How are we different though? Despite the obvious things like we can talk. We, like animals, are all meat, blood and bone. Also, I did say if you eat a sick animal (that includes rabies) then you are likely to get sick yourself.

I think it's a DNA difference, but I'd have to research it.

Yep. If you eat the brain that is. Otherwise... There's a chef in Japan (where else?) who cut off his genitals and served them at a fancy dinner. The diners knew this and paid a fair bit to eat 'all natural Japanese sausage'.

You can read about it here (warning: graphic pictures)
