Yup, I do find her exasperating, I like her, she has her sweet moments but damn does she really wear me down at times. She's trying, wasn't an easy LI option on my end.

If it was endless, sure. I can't stand the tumblr discourse about her, for example. But talking in a enormous thread, where I have devoted pages upon pages talking about how she's an interesting and complex character, about how I feel her character reads in a larger social context is hardly putting social responsibility on her shoulders. There are lots of different angles to talk about a character from.

Gah I really hope so, she's pretty stagnant.

I also don't fault others for being disappointed/irked with how the first shot at a DA lesbian companion was handled, I can see where they're coming from.

just because i ran out of likes... nothing really to add atm

On the first point I see how Sera is divisive. She is one of two gay characters in the game. I can see how lesbian players might feel a bit irritated with her portrayal. It might have gone down differently if she had followed a gay Cassandra type. Still I would think this is not what the writers intended. I just doubt they meant to cause any hurt or offense. Sometimes people just don't see all the consequences through in their planning stage. I still think Sera is a good character and she isn't a bad person and I firmly believe we have not seen the last of her. I think we'll get a chance to see her evolve.

On the second point: Yeah. I've seen that and it makes no sense to me. It's a game. These characters do not really exist but people get way too passionate about them to the point they lose perspective. But fandom is like that. I remember in the 80's in Junior High two guys I hung out with getting really snarly with each other about who was cooler: Kirk or Spock? Nonsensical, right? It's a silly thing to start tossing expletives at someone over but people will do it. Yeah guess we didn't need the internet to get that sort of thing going!

I'd really like a dlc that happens in Denerim or something and bonus points if you get Sera with you and see some of her past. :D

Anything that makes Sera having a big part in it, i feel like I don't know her much with her past. :/

I suggested a scenario to Uncle the other day (hope someone from BWare is peeking) where Sera learns a friend from the orphanage she thought dead is actually alive and being held captive (maybe in Tevinter?). She asks the quiz to help her get this person free. Maybe the plot could involve flashbacks to her childhood and what happened to her (with maybe some comedic scenes of the Hero's boots running past her) that would flesh out her story better and maybe the whole quest could show some new side to her (more concern for a close friend).

i feel like I barely know much of most of the companions this time around... though I do have a bit of bias and want more about Sera.. this is my main desire for DLCs, i want to learn more of them and in a few cases for the characters to grow. I'm not ready to be done with this group.

She is pretty stagnant though. I mean I've talked here before about why I think that works in the context of her needing stability before she can grow, but it's not meant as a criticism so much as an observation.

That kind of character arc is going to bother people, because it's atypical and in a potentially very frustrating way.

Being on Tumblr's your biggest mistake there,

If I wanted a place with 100% reasonable and thoughtful discourse I wouldn't be on Tumblr or here or the Internet or.. A person. just like the BSN, tumblr is a cesspool with some bright spots that make it worthwhile, and you can control the content you see there better, so I end up seeing a lot more idiocy here than there unless I go looking around (then it's even).

I agree. Before we move on to the next game I want to see some more of these characters. We really do need to tie up what happens with Solas unless that's being saved for DA 4.

Exactly. my girlfriend doesn't even like this game as much as DA2 because the characters haven't felt as complete to her, and she doesn't feel the same level of attachment to them as past companions. It's just we barely got enough of these characters, and they're all interesting, but i feel like i barely know them... I figure Solas' main thing will stretch on into the next game or even to the 5th one but maybe we can get something before then?

I want a dlc that is centered around past companions and companions from DA:I as well. Verric told us a bit about what the DA2 companions are doing. But, we don't know much about what the cast of DA:O is doing. Sure it's hinted that Sten becomes Arishok depending on how DA2 played out, but we don't get much info about the rest. I'd just like to catch up with Oghren, Shale and maybe go with Verric to check on Aveline and Merril.

Well I think I agreed. I acknowledged how I thought lesbians might feel and that they might feel cheated of a purely reasonable first character. I disagree on the "stagnant" term. That seems harsh. Is she immature? Yes, but she does do a good thing by joining and wanting to help. I hope we'll see more of her and see her affected by her experience. Other recurring characters have shown different sides so why not Sera?

Stagnant as in she doesn't seem to evolve much once you reach the end of the game, doesn't grow from the experience. She joined the Inquisition as what was happening was affecting her "playground", self interest was her main motivation. Didn't bother me none, needed the help, shady companions are to be expected when recruiting in dark alleyways. :P  I would like to see more sides to her, might help me understand where she is coming from better maybe.

As I've said, I like Sera a lot. I'm not disappointed by her because she's a bad character or person. I'm not disappointed by her. Again, I like her, and I do look forward for more content involving her in the future.

I'm just disappointed by the fact that considering all the history about troubling lgbt representation in media, they gave us as a first lesbian companion someone who was made to be divisive on purpose; I mean, she even has the option of being kicked out at any time in order to give people who dislike her a way to get rid of her (which is something I don't get, it's like they assumed that, amongst all the companions, only Sera would have been so disliked that she needed a "kick me out" option at any given time).
Should Sera have never existed? Hell no, I'm glad they wrote her. Should Sera have not been the very first lesbian companion in the franchise? Eh, it couldn't have hurt to have a lady knight in shining armour who happens to be gay instead, for once.

The thing with Sera is that despite her recalcitrance and seeming unwillingness to change, there are just enough hints that she might possibly be capable of altering her point of view to keep me hopeful. I think in that respect Lukas did a great job...

From what I've seen both can be pretty equal. Inquisition "Tumblrized" the forums in my opinion, though maybe I've just not been here long enough and it's always been like this.

If those lil journal entries are anything to go by, "read elfy stuff for her" etc then yeah one can hope she'll bend a little.

Self-interested I agree with although I am not so sure that's necessarily a bad thing or exclusive to her among party members. Viv sure is. Bull admits ulterior motives for joining. I also would quibble with describing her as "shady" as it's not like you're taking on some felon (not like when you take on Zaeed in ME 2. Now that guy is "shady"). You're taking on an immature prankster with half-baked ideas about what's best for the commons. If you mean by "stagnant" that we don't see more evolution on that score by the end of the game then I agree. Let's hope we see it in the dlcs.

If we get one.

Weirdly enough I liked all the party members in this game, that is a first for me in this franchise as there is always one or two I really don't like for whatever reason. Great cast imo and happy to see more of em in future DLCs too.

I've been on it for two years. Never had a problem. However I don't do fandom stuff so I don't see a lot of the gaming debates. I do get the Sera images I post from there though and it's a good resource for that. Stay away from politics and fandom and you're probably fine. You can filter a lot of stuff though better than here as Veeia says. There are way to remove what you don't want to see by blocking hashtags that you know will ****** you off.

I'm really only hopeful for Sera growth in DLCs because Lukas did such a good job of that with Carver. But honestly, since the next game isn't going to be a direct sequel, and since there is little to no chance of Sera playing a big role after this game (I mean it could happen but....considering how "disposable" she is, I doubt it)...post game DLC is really the only chance they have to play with that. If they don't....I mean, obviously I'll always love her and consider her well-written, but it would seem like wasted potential.

Only Carver growth I saw was if you made him a Grey Warden, even that wasn't enough growth
