yeah i'm kind of...doesn't this proposed change draw attention to the OT nature of the thread? which seems like a bad idea, just to deal with a few trolls? but it doesn't seem to bother anyone else and i've only been a member here for like 6 months so i don't really understand the ins and outs of how these things go so i'll just trust y'all know what you are doing

Duel, I'm trying to keep our thread from being shut down by overzealous mods if trolls report us.

 

Except that so far it hasn't been shut down by overzealous mods, despite operating for nearly a year and having more than a few run ins with moderators cleaning up the place.

 

Old threads which mostly stay the course have a tolerance for going off topic, this is how the character threads all work. Threads which are off topic in nature tend to get moved or locked. I'd also suggest that the less the thread is about Sera the less pull there is for everyone to stick around, and eventually only one small clique will remain with the odd nomadic reg dropping by for a visit.

 

I'd like that but I don't think it's going to happen. Personally I wish that they could set something like 100 years later or whatever but obviously you run into problems there because of the title of the franchise. I don't think they do a great job of bridging games though, so I'd rather have clean slate, but I think the best we can hope for is that they get better at the bridging. Maybe moving far away will be a good step towards that!

 

I agree, but I think the potential of them getting it right is so great that I want them to keep trying regardless of the consequences

Regardless of who sparked the idea, or indeed appeasing mods or trolls. I'm all in favour of having a title and first post that actually describes the thread. I can't see how that's a bad thing, really. It might help non-troll newcomers to understand what's going on.

That was why I got behind the idea. I noticed people that hadn't posted here before had no idea what was going on. Appeasing the trolls though has made me wonder if we are doing the right thing. It basically says they have won.

I'm all for spicing up the OP, but going "ok trolls it's off topic are you happy now" is just asking for them and more of them to report the thread, lmao. I don't see any advantages.

However I guess the spotlight is already there so I think if people are genuinely worried that the thread might be shut down or locked down or heavily moderated for OT posts because of people reporting them or complaining about it, the solution is to self police more so the thread is better balanced. Best defense is a good offense, etc.

I may be biased here because I prefer the thread when it's a healthy combination of Sera and OT posts because I love chatting to y'all but there are also really not very many places where you can have a productive discussion about Sera so I think its important to cultivate that aspect too. Which I'm not laying any blame or anything there because I get just as OT as anyone and I'm not gonna be walking around policing anyone's postings or anything, haha.

In the end, despite my novella here, I don't care too much. Do what you will, I'll be around. (except for the next few days)

Oh and SE, I think you're right about the potential for a bridged narrative between games being so great that it's worth the experimentation. I think what I maybe haven't taken into consideration is that DA: I was such a bigger attempt at doing that than da2, so they had a lot more opportunities to have issues (and successes) and then learn from those. Hopefully they'll carry some of that knowledge over to DA4 and improve on it!

That's the key, I think, veeia. We need to let people know both that this is primarily a thread about Sera where they should feel free to post anything constructive that is Sera-related, but also that it's a friendly community that is very tolerant of OT banter. Not either/or but both.
