If Sera is gonna be race-gated, its because her writer wants to tell a certain story.

 

It would upset alot of people that had certain playthroughs planned ofcourse, but that's just how things go sometimes.

 

I have no problem with race gating myself for story reasons, it can make the character more fleshed out and unique IMO. Or a character might just not be into a certain race physically for whatever reason, totally plausible. Sometimes you just aren't into someone and you don't need a long ass reason for that.

 

If she is race-gated it shouldn't effect me as I will be playing a Dalish rogue first run, I might end up romancing her. I can't see her being a self-hating elf, she will love my Inquisitor, oh yes!

Whatever Lukas has done with this character is going to be absolutely super amazing, I have no doubts. I was so happy to learn he was her writer.

Only reason I could see her not be with a dalish elf is cause she doesn't like nature but I doubt they would do that, nor do I think she will be against humans cause of them being a noble (that has nothing to do with race) point is I don't think Sera will be race gated at all

Even if we assume that she is race-gated, it would most likely be for a more specific reason than the Dalish's affinity for the woods. 

 

In general, I think it would make more sense for any race-gating in the game to be directly tied to the respective character's personality and values as opposed to the locked out race itself.

"Race gating" to me would be better if the reason was the backstory. "Doesnt like nobles, humans out for Sera" "doesnt like lyrium smugglers, dwarves out for Cullen" and so on. That is a story reason, but them just saying they dont like the race has unfortunate circumstances

I'd be seriously surprised if she's gated against her own race even though they are culturally polar opposites. Which would make for a very enjoyable and sweet romance, they'd learn from each others experiences as elves from two different worlds and all that jazz. I can smell the fanfiction already!

 

If she was to be gated against humans would make more sense story wise as after all the human protagonist is again a noble. She isn't their greatest fan and for good reason. Can't comment on Dwarfs or Qunari here, wouldn't know how she would feel about them, but against a noble human yeah I can see her having reservations.

Hmm..I don't think we've yet seen a relationship in canon between a dalish and city elf.  That's definitely something that's interesting to me.  I've been there and done  that w/ human/elf pairings XD

I hear you sister, dem elves I do adore.  The human/elf pairing is nice and I certainly enjoyed it in the last two games but the chance to combine a City/Dalish elf relationship like you said it's so unique for us and it would be incredibly interesting. Their experiences are so different, their lives are so different, the dialogue would be awesome sauce!

 

As for Sera my lil Dalish rogue is gonna try her darnedest to win her affection.

Turning away a Dalish elf has nothing to do with race either, as the difference between Dalish and city elves are cultural.

 

Besides, nice double-standard. You can see her turning away a Dalish Inquisitor on account of not liking nature, but you can't see her turning away a noble on account of not liking nobles, which we know is an established aspect of her character.

Did I ever state this? I said IF you are going to say she will be race gated against a human for being a noble which is the only reason many have been giving (which has nothing to do with race, that has more to do with status in the world) then you might as well try and say she will be gated against an elf for being dalish and her not liking nature, never once did I say one was going to happen and the other wouldn't it was an example. I firmly believe she will NOT be race gated.

Sera probably doesn't like people who set themselves above others.  Which would be a reason to for her to be gated against both Human Nobles and a Dailish Elves.

 

Not that I think that's the case, but there it is.

 

Dwarves should be safe in any case, since they're not above anyone.  because they're short.

I just don't think the noble thing will work cause what about Mages? Yes they are still a noble but they were taken to the circle when they were younger so he/she wasn't raised as a noble and probably won't even know what its like to be a noble.

Depends on Sera's personality, I suppose. For a Dalish, Dwarf, or Vashoth, the person is gaining power, becoming the commander of a human army in an unprecedented way. The protagonist can understand precisely what it's like to be a member of a group who are ostracized or marginalized in the human dominated societies of Thedas.

Seriously though, the main reason I doubt she won't be race-gated is because she's already restricted as an F/F romance. So race-gating her on top of that would just be impractical and unnecessary.
