I'd be so tempted to jump into that.

It's from "When Lilac's last in the Dooryard Bloom'd," which is a favorite of mine, and that's my favorite part.

My feelings about Whitman are...complicated. His poetry is magnificent, his politics less so. I'd recommend "I Sing the Body Electric," but there are parts that are upsetting, and reflective of the common attitude of his time period as far as race goes.

What's wrong with his politics?
The only thing I know about him is he supported abolition and Lincoln, and volunteered to read poetryand take care of soldiers in the hospitals. He didn't want to fight though. He seemed like a good man.

He toyed with the notion of abolition, but not due to a belief in racial equality, and he flip flopped around on it.
"I Sing the Body Electric" contains a bit about his common visits to the slave market as a casual outing. At a certain point, he accused the Abolitionist movement of being a danger to democracy.
I found the discovery extremely disappointing.
Edit: I don't think we should get too into it here, but I'll just say that he wasn't a man who expressed a lot of hate, or a lot of courage and ethics, imo. I almost regret bringing up in the first place, but I was trying to give fair warning to anyone who might check out that particular poem.

Yeah, in that case... that sucks.
It sounds like a lot of people back then. Even Lincoln in some ways. It seemed like a lot of them wussed out, in favor of order or something along those lines. Some good hearted people, but also afraid of all the change.
There was a quote I liked from Frederick Douglass about Lincoln, but it sort of applies to this:
“Viewed from the genuine abolition ground, Mr. Lincoln seemed tardy, cold, dull, and indifferent; but measuring him by the sentiment of his country, a sentiment he was bound as a statesman to consult, he was swift, zealous, radical, and determined.”

Barely at all. If I understand your meaning. Forget wider social ties.. She doesn't even have many connections with the Red Jenny thing. It's very informal and independent.

True, but she does seem to be fairly anti-mage... though that might tie in to what she sees as the "default" (regrettably, that also includes being human).

I think that's part of it, but also think it's just personal fear.. she's comfortable with the commonplace and mundane.

She was so not written as a tempest. None of the damn companions were written as having a specialization, and the only one whose specialization actually really fits the character is Cole's Assassin.

And Cole "wasn't written as an assassin" either

Again she doesn't see humans as the "default" whatever that means in this context

I would say ...complicated. I think she very much wants a "tribe" even as she rejects it. I think she rejects because she has been rejected. But she does yearn for a place in something. I think in a sense, the Inquisition becomes the closest she's had to one but she's never gonna be drawing lines or touting party line perfectly...which is why she likes the Inquisition, because although it is certainly a big organization, she sees how inclusive it is and how it doesn't expect her to be exactly like everyone else.

*taps fingers* so y'all just gon let the Rogek lyrium deal theory go to waste? eh. i'd start a topic on it but i know it'd get lost out there. I'm not popular or controversial enough to draw a crowd to read and respond out there.
Eeeek!....Quick! someone ! get on her theory !

Wait...what? I didn't mention Tempest.
I was talking about her general attitude about magic. Her proclivity to recoil a bit.

Hmm. How would she react to a more inclusive pan-elven mindset, instead of the exclusive one typical of the Dalish she seems to have met? Such as my PC's desire to uplift all elves.

I made that comment because she mechanically plays around with alchemy a lot.
