Okay, let me back up I think cutting your hair short means you don't have to secure it to keep it out of your eyes and means it is less of an issue if it isn't washed regularly. I don't know how easy it would be to maintain her exact haircut, but her hair is basically plastic so it doesn't follow normal rules. It principle short makes sense, in specific regard to that cut, whatever I don't know.
My avatar is supposed to have dyed her hair throughout Stalingrad so I'm not actually arguing that short hair is always low maintenance, even in combat.
