Mind you, the person making the point about Sera rejecting the human because she is a noble would still work. They did say the gates would have story justifications, so Sera rejects the human because of their noble background, even if they're a mage, fulfills both requirements (if you consider a character's opinion to be a 'story' reason)

yeah I don't consider that a good story reason, I would be more okay with it being the whole human and elf relations thing but just the fact they are a noble just seems like a cop out

You are definitely making a big deal out of nothing with that assumption
I advanced about five levels and made about three hundred Sovereigns. Also, without it, my character would never stand a chance of being lvl25 at the moment she slew the Archdemon.
I tend to be level 15/16ish by the time I leave Lothering. I find level grinding to be pretty dull, and like have access to all the really fun spells early in the game. I also tend to sell the Dalish back their own elfroots to level up quickly after doing their quest.
I think Sera would approve of this attitude.

All we know as a human protagonist is the noble life, if we were allowed to play as a human commoner I reckon Sera would perhaps have no qualms about getting close to you. It's just the fact that we know she has grown up in an Alienage, city elves have it rough and I wouldn't blame her for having a strong dislike for human nobility. And perhaps she may not be race-gated at all, maybe Bioware will restrict the straight options instead, perhaps we're going into panic mode for nothing!

chances of that being true is very high, though the only straight option I see getting gated is Cullen

I don't think she'll be race-gated.
Though, I don't care personally...I'll roll a dwarf if needed (don't usually play them). I might play a dwarf at some point anyway...their background looks cool.
As for humans, nothing in Sera's background (what we know at least) suggests she holds a particular animosity towards humans. She doesn't like 'bigwigs' which does include nobles but it would also include the Inquisitor (dwarf/human/qunari/elf). I think that will be a hurdle to get over if you desire any form of relationship with Sera (friendship/romance).
Once over that, I don't see race getting in the way of a possible romance.

Thing is no matter what race the Inquisitor is they are going to be an authority figure and in power (she hates authority also), plus morality is what the approval and disapproval system is for
