We used a bastardized version of DnD 3.5 and Battletech rules. It actually worked very well.Oooooooooooooo that sounds fun. This group I was with for a long time had found some rules for a d20 40k campaign... but it ended up not working out cause the people in the group weren't all that into it... mind you, they mostly did stupid stuff in regular dnd, which made it hard to play with them when I was actually trying to be at least partially serious... I mean I get some playing around the table... but there are times when you shouldnt do some things...

believe me im cheap i just wanna know a price range
I spent in total I think £200 for a fairly small army, but it wracked up a lot of points so I got my moneys worth.
Edit:
"Lot of points" means I had less units than my opponents, but I made up for it in firepower. I could make few of hard hitting attacks whereas my opponents could make far more hits but not as much hard hitting damage.

I miss tabletop games. I haven't played D&D in about 10 years now. My old group was not too good because it was all guys, most of them on the dumber end of the scale. My cousin was part of that group. He's ok. ![]()
The main problem was that the GM was kind of a railroader.

Yeah, i had some friends awhile back to play with. I don't anyone like that now. There's "meetup" listings, I guess, but that sounds like a risk. As much as I am a fantasy fan and like fantasy fans, a lot of people don't... necessarily make good company.

That was my space marine army, which compared to most armies, is fairly small anyway.
My Grey Knights army cost a lot less, probably around £100 for a couple squads but it kicked major a*s. Their blades cut through armour like it's butter so vehicles just explode when they meet them. And they have wrist mounted duel bolters (that's a gun) which, a space marines main weapon is a bolter so... if that makes any sense, basically they own.

It's expensive as ****! There are figures that easily reach over $110 for a single figurine.

Does anyone play that for money?
Because that seems like the practical thing to do... to make up losses and such ![]()

Behold the glory that is Warhammer 40K.

Which is stupid because it's just a piece of plastic or metal (some kind of metal thing) and a bit of paint yet people happily pay that much. Just do it yourself and save yourself $70.
