I am very anti spanking but have no desire to have that argument here....seriously it comes up too much in my parenting spaces and everyone's feelings just get hurt and no one ever changes their mind so lmao, I will not be participating in that here. I parent the way that I think is best for my family and I try to extent that courtesy to others to do so for their own.

Dazzle, that was very kind of you to do. I don't get out much with my husband because babysitting is so expensive, so whenever someone agrees to do it for free hearts grow in my eyes.

I believe that spanking can work, depending on the child but that it should be used a last resort and only in a sense to shock the child and show them that their behaviour is not acceptable.

 

It should be a firm swat, and it should not hurt or injure the child. Sting, yes but it should not leave a mark, and it should be done for discipline not out of frustration and anger.

Seems like some people are confusing slapping/spanking with actually hitting the kid to the point of injuring it.  ​  Come on now.

Like I said, it definitely should be a last resort. Spanking was useless for me, because just saying you were disappointed resulted in a sobbing Dazzle.

There are adults who are just as stupid (or more stupid) than kids, who feel justified by these teachings, and don't know their limits themselves.

 

The whole culture surrounding "spanking" needs reform...not just the kids. Maybe then you'd get to some moderate expression of it.

 

Then you can always punish the kid by not letting it going out with friends or take away their games and such for few days. Ofc i'd prefer a lil talking first but if the kid doesn't see any reason?

 

I agree about the adults but we are talking about adults who know what to do and don't beat their kids here... Those adults you speak of, don't even deserve to have kids tbh.

I'm actually tempted to make another Qunari Quizzy just for Sera now after the last few days. Dunno will it become canon... Likely not, it's always my first run that is. Will be a while though - I was impatient and bought DAI for the 360. Don't regret my decision *exactly* (I was DYING for the game), but two playthroughs and the bugs and struggling with Frostbite are grating on me. Hoping to go current gen in May so will start afresh then.

And the thing is, the kids who would get spanked (including myself) more than likely don't care or fear or respect it. You can scare some kids, but the problem children will just be annoyed even more.
