To me the ultimate companions was rather telling, Alistair (straight Knight) Varric (straight cool dude) and Morrigan (she's all mine, keep your hands off). Maybe it's a little crass but I don't even see a bi person in the mix, let alone gay. You would think a bi person would make the list due to availability but maybe sharing isn't liked too well. Just wondering out loud.

(more ramblings of a personal nature, nothing to see here)

I'd argue it's people being massive Origins fans and like Varric slightly more than Leli

****. No, it's not.

And Merrill was in the last game. And Leliana was totally fine with magic in Origins. Josephine doesn't seem to have a major problem with it, but her romance, in my opinion, completely sucks.

Yes, it is.

There, you have your characters who don't hate magic. Let's have a character who is afraid of magic. Not all characters have to suit with your protagonist's views.

There's a difference between being indifferent on magic and hating it. What does her hating magic gain anyone?

But she's still accepting of a mage, even though she fears magic.

She better not have that damn mustache, that's a deal breaker for me.

That would sort of defeat the purpose.

Another fun thing. Honestly, I would have preferred it this way, because then I could have a love interest who actually likes magic.

I can see it working.

I actually think that in a setting where we are told everyone hates magic by default its pretty important to see someone who seriously doesn't like magic. It would add a lot of weight to the whole mage/templar thing if that was as common a view as it is supposed to be.

True, and that does help. It's less incongruous than Fenris' romance, at least.

I wonder if she could ever learn to fear it less?

You'd have some pretty repetitive dialogue in party banter with mages if that was the case.

The only dude to get this much hate is Krem. Wonder why that is.

I wonder why, indeed...

She's a commoner. Commoners have been indoctrinated to fear and hate magic for ages. You're not going to undo that quickly.

Really now? Can't you just accept the fact that some characters are different? Some hate magic, some not and some are indifferent. Deal with it. Pls.

And she doesn't hate magic. She clearly can live just fine with a mage inquisitor or hell, Dagna.

Well, so long as I can undo it at all.

Oh, I'm sorry if I do not share the opinion.

I seem to lack sufficient amount of compelling proofs to suggest you're telling the truth.

It's agreed upon by nine out of ten psychiatrists that complaining about things on the Internet is in the 50th percentile of healthy ways to deal with minor complaints.

Vivienne, I hate. Sera, I have very complicated emotions for. Basically, I like her a lot except for all the things I can't adequately roleplay discussing with her, mostly elven issues. I don't think the content of her character is necessarily the problem so much as your total inability to intelligently respond to it as the PC.

Which is important. She's afraid of magic but can still like mages.

It's like how someone who is afraid of flying doesn't normally hate pilots. Imperfect quick analogy is imperfect.

True, but... my Hekati Adaar is also really into fiddling with magic, especially some of the darker varieties. It's why I named her that.

Sera's no longer little. I think she's rather resistant to that fact.

As long as your qunari doesn't enjoy killing people and laugh like a Tevinter Magister when does magic, Sera will still bone her and make her cookies.

I only enjoy killing bad people (something Sera shares) and only laugh like one sometimes.

Seriously? You think that just because some gets older or taller the things they learned to be afraid of all their life just suddenly stops affecting them?

That's not really how fear works...

She's not hurtful on it, just fearful.

Sera tends to hang on to some of the fears and hurt that she realized as a child, really there are things that I've never gotten over as well and I'm older than Sera.
