Not in Sera's world-view. She sees the Mage-Templar War as two powerful factions fighting all across Thedas without care for the ordinary people who get caught in the crossfire. She also disapproves if you ally with the Templars.

She's right as well.

maybe she's just really into dragons

This is what I assumed. I thought dragons were crazy cool as a kid, still do but there's also flying machines and stuff now.

Does anyone have a theory about what's Sera's deal with dragons?

She freaks out at even tiny amounts of magic but when it comes to dragons she practically pulls a Iron Bull and gets aroused.

I think the thing there is that dragons aren't supernatural as such, they're part of the normal wildlife same as wolves and nugs. They're also not exactly overtly magical, well if you consider the different breathes as natural phenomena and suspend pedantry regarding the ridiculously small wing size anyway.

(edit) Also they're friggin' dragons. They fly, and they have the brains of dolphins, and they breathe fire, and they have talons, and reptile skin, and they're beast. Hypocrisy is allowed here. The wings are tragically small though.

I agree. I do sympathise with the mages more but they are far from being without fault. That's why my preferred action is to conscript them.

I just recently (heck, yesterday/today) read The Last Flight (don't blame me, blame the lack of English physical copies around the place I live) and I just though...

We know Merrill would like a baby Griffon... But do you think Sera would also like a Griffon?

I can sympathise with the mages, but I don't see how a violent uprising in the circles was supposed to do anything other than get everyone killed quickly, or get nearly everyone killed slowly, and make the rest of population hate them.

Didn't Sera have the (quite logical) suggestion of taming a dragon to fight the not-an-archdemon? Seems to me she would be in favour.

*still hoping for DA4: Griffon Fighter*

Flight sim? Sounds legit, go back in time to when griffons were around for the wardens to ride. Choose your class of charcter, rogue would be shooting darkspawn with a bow, warrior would use a lance (Finally a game with spears, I mean I know there are  a few that have them, ES Morrowwind comes to mind), and well mages shooting lightning or fireballs, or whatever other spell you want. Maybe have the last mission be a fight against an archdemon in the sky?

Fight againist the Archdemon in the sky? Why not a game set during the Fourth Blight, where you play as Garahel. Or the Dwarf rookie rider that was with them and withdrew. You'd get to fight the Archdemon, and at the end of the day pull out while Garahel kills the damn thing.

Well it's sort of a spoiler for The Last Flight but also like legit lore and all now and good luck saying that in a way which doesn't give it away:

Companions include The Red Bann, The White Embrium of Starkhaven, Luke "Lady of the Skies" Walker, Starbronto, and Chuckles. Temporary companions include Biggs and Nugkins.

I spent far too long working on those.

The only one at any fault is Fiona here. Conscripting everyone for the actions of a few is something that I cannot help but see as wrong.

The reason I favour conscripting them is precisely because I don't trust their leadership. I don't see it as a long-term solution to anything, but I want them under control unil Corypheus is dealt with.

Also "it's not the actions of a few" as Xil would have it. Those mages you conscript joined that revolt. They made a decision to follow Fiona and her lieutenants. They are not innocent. Same with the Templars.

I just don't get the point of conscription for the mages considering they are willing to help you close the breach anyway.

Unlike the templars, the mages aren't part of an organization external to the Inquisition and they have nowhere else to go after getting booted from Redcliffe by the Ferelden monarchy.

I just don't get what's significantly different about conscription besides sending a message that you think Fiona sucks.

I won't imprison anyone again.

The only problem was allying with the Venatori. The rebellion itself was completely justified.

Why would you not trust their leadership? The only reason Fiona took them to the Venatori was because of the Templars. As long as the mages are safe, they'd have no reason to turn on you (and by the end of the quest to recruit the mages, Fiona makes it clear that she isn't willing to turn on anyone anyway).

Well, going by what I've read on here, most of those who prefer to conscript the mages look at the situation from a political, long-term viewpoint--irrespective of the immediate circumstances. The usual argument against this line of thinking is the Inquisition has Cory to deal with and needs all the help it can get, but that doesn't change those people's perspective.

I do plan to conscript them whenever I play the game again, if only to see how things play out in-game.

And that in itself is enough of reason to conscript them. If you're concerned about their lack of rights under the Ancien Regime you can try and promote Cassandra or Leliana for Divine.

Also conscripting them is not the same as imprisoning them. You're not a Circle. You're the Inquisition/An army. It's not the same thing as what they experienced before.

I strenuously disagree with that being reason enough to conscript them. I'm not going to force them to go along with anyone anymore.

Why do you strenuously disagree? They aligned themselves with the Venatori an organization that supports slavery (elves) and represents the most reactionary and retrograde of the Tevinter political spectrum. If their leadership (the Mages) were willing to do that, to align with that, then F'em. Seriously. Whining about their rights while making an alliance with a reactionary cult that admires slavery and imperialism. No sympathy from me. None. They can do their penance as conscripts and we'll worry about reform when Cory and his reactionary thugs are deep-sixed! :)

Are we really forgetting that the mages allying with the Venatori was an act of desperation, and not a first choice? Not to mention that when the deal was made, Fiona was offered what would pass as a good deal, which Alexius later went back on. He lied to them to get them on his side.

And it isn't as if the Venatori are going to advertise that they're a doomsday cult that worships an ancient darkspawn. There's no way the mages could have known that.
