Supposedly Alexius visits Redcliffe before the Inquisitor wakes up at Haven. You learn that from the Tranquil in the Tavern in Redcliffe. Ok so who is the Fiona we meet in Val Royeaux? You see the problem here? Probably a narrative boner on BioWare's part but it's why I just don't even want to discuss the time travel bit as it makes no sense. I'll deal with the Fiona I meet in Redcliffe and that one is making bad decisions.

Wish the writers explained that whole part. It felt very confusing.

There was great potential in Fiona tbh..... she could've been a determined rebel who knew what to do.. instead we got a lost person who would accept any offer, even a wrong one just to be safe.

Then again, desperation does that. We've seen it a lot of times.

All of which strikes me as much ado about nothing, since indenturing the mage rebellion isn't just about Fiona; it affects all mages.

All those mages decided to nothing even when their leader was destroying every thing they stood for and was about to sell them into slavery. Inaction has just as much of an impact as action and can just as many consequences.

You're either incapable of reading or incapable of understanding what I and others have said. Fiona DID go to the Inquisition, in Val Royeaux. By the time the Inquisitor and co. reach Redcliffe to speak with Fiona, Alexius had already shown up and used his time magic to get to the mages first. When Fiona made the deal with Alexius, it was for indentured servitude, not slavery, a deal that Alexius went back on. again, he lied to them to get them on his side.

What "intelligence network" do you expect a group of civilians to have? The mages aren't soldiers or spies, they're scholars and otherwise regular people who lived in a tower for their entire lives. They're not the NSA or the FBI.

What fortress does Fiona hold? Because last I checked, the mages didn't control anything since the Circles were disbanded.

You're arguing ENTIRELY in hindsight and straight-up inventing nonsense to fit your case.

You seem intensely personal about this. Are you capable of having a disagreement with someone without getting childishly personal about it? On ignore you go. :)

Which is something I get but it doesn't make her a good leader. The Mages have some valid issues that need to be addressed. I don't disagree with that but they lack good leadership and a coherent plan.

As for the writers I have a feeling there is no explanation because "yeah we screwed that one up" probably isn't worth the trouble.

What could they do? The Venatori outgunned them.

I don't think that's a screwup. The Fiona in Val Royeaux was from the original timeline before Alexius overrode it.

But again if you talk to the Tranquil at Redcliffe, in the Tavern, he tells you Alexius shows up with his offer to Fiona while the Inquisitor is at Haven and before the Inquisitor even gets to Val Royeaux. You see the problem here?

I think I get it actually. Redcliffe is a bubbled timeline seperate from the Inquistor's time line.

I believe that outside of Redcliffe everyone is living the same time as the inquistor, but when you go to Redcliffe you step into a seperate time bubble. You aren't affected because you weren't in Redcliffe when the time magic was cast.

Could Alexius have time traveled and arrived after Fiona talked to the Inquisition and realizing that he was too late, jumped back to his current time and then time traveled again to before the Val Royeaux meeting?  I probably didn't explain that very well.

Ugh, time travel makes my head hurt.

You and me both. Yes he could have but it isn't stated very clearly in the game that he does that or at all. That he can manipulate time is a given but I don't think BioWare handled this as well as Doctor Who's writers might have. :P

Can we get back to Sera now?

More specifically, Clemence is speaking of the second timeline, the one that Alexius created after Val Royeaux that has him showing up before Val Royeaux.

"Its magic" is in no way an excuse for anything.

also I dont think you should be using that pic Xil, it has... religious connotations which could irk people.

I think it could be seen as insensitive or offensive, for sure.

I mean, I'm agnostic yet i cringed when I saw it.

I think some forms of media explain it well. My two favourites are the films Looper and Edge of Tomorrow.

Basically, time travel in DAI works like how it does in Back to the Future.

Also, I'm pretty sure the picture is just a reference to Benedict looking rather like the guy in the original cartoon version of said picture.

I dont care that its a reference to some cartoon. It still can cause problems in the thread. so for the sake of keeping this thread from being closed a second time I'll ask, politely, that you please change it to something else.

Why would you not trust their leadership? The only reason Fiona took them to the Venatori was because of the Templars. As long as the mages are safe, they'd have no reason to turn on you (and by the end of the quest to recruit the mages, Fiona makes it clear that she isn't willing to turn on anyone anyway).

They sanctioned a war that, however justified in their eyes, resulted in many innocent people dying. Yes their cause was just, but that doesn't mean that their actions were justified.

While the odds of any of this thread's regulars being offended on behalf of a vicious homophobic ******* strike me as slim, I'll accede to your request.

That was the templars who started the war, not the mages. The mages just seceded.

I"m sure this has been posted before, I'm just wondering if this makes anyone else think  of using Sera with a Qunari Inquisitor as a fast ball special?? Throw her in the middle of the battle, have her active a thousand cuts and just shred everyone!

You'd be very surprised by who would and wouldnt be surprised by some things. Most espcially when it pretains to religion.

She freaks out at even tiny amounts of magic but when it comes to dragons she practically pulls a Iron Bull and gets aroused. It's fun to hear her fan girl about the winged monstrosities but I would actually want to understand why she has such a passion for them.

It's the horns - Sera really appreciates a nice rack.

I mean, it's in character, but the difference is that she gets on with Bull and not with Solas. I guess you only "don't talk p*ss" if you like both the people in the relationship...

Sera's dialogue with Solas didn't read to me like she was accusing him of trying to sleep his way to power, and whether Bull was being serious about it or not he was plain outright saying that's what Sera was doing.

The impression I got was that the time-travel magic only worked because of the explosion that ripped a hole in the Fade (what with Alexius not being able to travel any farther into the past than that point, and all). Which would mean, by extension, that since the Anchor was embedded in the Inquisitor's hand was linked to that, this protected the Inquisitor from having the memory of what happened before Alexius changed time vanish.
