Out of likes but sounds like a fun read :-)

It's one of the ideas for the "[UNDECIDED ]" one listed in my sig - either that or the Quizzy cooks them a meal.  With the second Thedas book now out there's finally some information available on Thedas cuisine, which might be helpful if I go the other route.

The highlight of her romance is basically the duel scene and I think it's godawful for reasons discussed last week in this thread. I only watched her romance on YouTube but it's a big "nope" for me. I think Cassandra's romance is kinda crappy too but slightly better than Josephine's (just very slightly though xd) and I hate Gaider-romances so that's how much I don't like Josephine's xd

Josie was my first play through, and it was ok (though lacking in many areas) up until the duel scene. I kind of had the feeling like I was being handled like I was a guy, and then the duel confirmed it in my mind that I was.

Well, I hate it too, but it's not as though Josephine is better off without it...

I think Josephine is a big collection of misfires, honestly. More in execution than in the content of her character.

Why wouldn't she be? It never happens unless the Quizzy romances her. I think that whole section of her romance needs scrapped and rewritten from 2 separate points of view (male and female), and maybe a different writer. I didn't think it was all misfires, just too male-centric, for me.

How would you write it for a female PC? And I assumed that her parents arranging her engagement wouldn't somehow not happen if Josephine was being romanced.

As much as I dislike the duel scene myself, I wouldn't gauge the whole romance based solely on it. There's still a lot of fun to be had in Josie's romance, and I think it feels mature and organic compared to many others.

It just sucks that the duel scene can't be avoided whatsoever. I would have liked a way or two around it.

Possibly but it's not worth dropping the Seramance over xd

Josie's writer was a woman, and shows that even women can do these things

Ha, I was already playing a guy when I first romanced her but that is totally the feeling I would have had if I had romanced her as a female quizz, lol!

Nope. Sera is something else ^_^

Yes, Sylvia wrote Josie, and I think she did ok, but she wrote her from a singular point of view. I just have a lot of trouble connecting with that angle, being who and what I am.

So, what would you like to see changed to make it work for you?

I've seen a couple of comments that have given me a different perspective on Josie's romance, even though it doesn't fit for me, there are women that enjoy the romance. My preference is to romance the Knight in shining armor character but as others have said, they may want to be the Knight. Maybe it feels as if written for a male, it's hard for me to analyze with my background but maybe it's just written for characters whether male or female that enjoy playing a certain type of player. Idk.

I don't understand. Is it somehow wrong to show a women engaging in a duel to win her love?  We have women being all kinds of fighters in this setting, why wouldn't a woman that is a renounced warrior like the Inquisitor engage in a duel? Look at it this way, if the scene was written so that only men could engage in the duel and women could not, would that not be sexist?

The better solution to the scene would be to have the option to decline the duel and still win Josie's heart. That way, the player could choose if they wanted to see a duel or not regardless of their gender. That said, the whole point of the romance is to be disney like........so of course theirs a duel for her ladies hand.

Edit:

As Danielle points out, the duel does seem written for those that want to be in the "knight in shining armor" role of this rather typical disney romance. I'll leave it to the ladies to determine whether or not that means it bais for male players or that it just depends on the tastes of the player. Though I do know other female players who really enjoyed being able to fight over Josie's hand.

I think that for a male Quizzy, her romance works well. But for me, first I would like her to be a little more observant when being flirted with. Most of the romance is flirting and Josie not getting that she's being pursued, and then BAM, "oh I get it and I like you too!". Ugh.

I know when I'm being flirted with, it's unmistakable, and the whole "not getting it" thing just sort of makes her look rather childish and overly naive, especially for someone who is portrayed as a very intelligent, well traveled, and a master at politics.

I really don't know what I would change the second half of her romance to, I just know I can't quite connect with what we have been offered. Maybe if it had some personal crisis that involved The Game, or was taken hostage by some outside faction, or something other than forced betrothal to some douche bag noble dude nobody ever heard of. Would have been much better if another female lover from her past suddenly enters the picture and starts causing issues, jealousy, ect.

What if the Quizzy is a Mage, or a Rogue? Renowned warrior engaging in a duel would only really fit if the Quizzy was a "warrior". It fails horribly for a mage Quizzy.

It's the reason why I'm tempted to do her romance before I do Sera's. (Yes, I said a while ago that I would get around to do it but the story just doesn't interest me.) I like the idea of being the "knight."  ^_^

True. I have a female friend who enjoyed Josie's romance. It was even the first romance she played.

I'm just not too keen on this romance from that particular perspective. As Sunnie said, it works well for a male Inquisitor, and that's how I like it so much. But not for a female Inquisitor.

A lot of it comes down to personal opinion, though. So there's no right or wrong, just different perspectives, all of which are equally valid.

It does indeed. Its pretty funny watching a mage sudden wielding a sword in a duel. That said, duels like this in real life have had rules, I imagine no magic would be allowed and the choice of weapons would be preselected. I suppsoe it could be explained a little better.

Anyway, my point was that saying the romance is male bias because theres a duel to win a girls hand is itself unfairly biased because it implies the no female would like being in the "knight role". Which given how many women I've seen write about how much they love that duel scene, doesn't seem to be true. Therefore, it doesn't seem male biased.

My problem is, she doesn't want you to duel him and has her own way of solving the issue. You're only option is to ignore her wishes and go behind her back. I guess if that's a "knightly" thing to do then I definitely don't want to play a knight.

I think thats less a knightly thing to do a more bad writing. As I said, the better solution would be having the option to turn down the duel and win Josie anyway.

I can understand wanting to play a type but I must say being on the Sera thread, Sera's romance may be the most enjoyable romance I've done in a game. Even with my issues with the one conversation, her romance is absolutely adorable.

Amen to that. I wish there had been a different option for dealing with the situation.

Is that the conversation she has if your a Dalish. If so, then don't be Dalish. Dwarves make a very cute pairing with Sera and Qunari are the master race. Who wants to be a smelly elf anyway? (Just a joke)

I like being Dalish.

Luckily I like romancing Solas, so I'm good.

Adaar/Sera is going to be my Seramance (once BE comes out and I don't have to keep restarting my qunari to fix her face).

I trust that it is. It's hard for me though. I want to romance both, but, obviously I can't so I have to pick which to do first. Why can't we get the option to initiate a three way? It would deal with this problem in such a smooth way!  :P

I just prefer playing as an elf and am willing to accept the conversation and just click an answer Sera wants and move on. Basically ignoring the conversation. It took me a while but I'm through worrying about it, anymore. For me there is nothing like the confession scene with an elf, when Sera says she can even love an elf, I melt.

This is just a personal comment, but I'm hispanic and if someone said to me they could even love a hispanic.......that would rub me the wrong way. I find that more of an issue than the Sera/Dalish spat but thats just me. Oddly enough, thats the kind of problem I'd have expected with Cass but shes surprisingly open minded about matters of faith.

Is that her line? "I can even love an elf?"
