Yay! I love your work, it's always so good. I think it is adorable too.
I just described it elsewhere as "the Inquisitor has a chat with a friend who then insults her choice of lover" - it might relate to Sera in some way ![]()
Being neither a woman nor a lesbian, I did not want to leave a comment on this article which I found through Tumblr, although I might have written an essay. Does anyone here have anything to say? I haven't seen Orchid about in a while...

One of my favorite Sera/Blackwall banter, luckily it comes pretty early in the game. At least for me it does :-D
That is a fun one, although it got replace by my favorite when I got this one:

The writer doesn't appear to have paid close enough attention to what Sera actually says in her dialogue, except when it's something she can quote to make Sera look as bad as possible.

I'll say it sounds like she expects skin color to be a much bigger deal than it is in Thedas. Has it ever been brought up in any of the games as a common theme of discrimination from anyone in universe? The closest I ever remember it being noteworthy enough to even mention is when Cassandra asks Vivienne if her parents were from Rivain.
It's like a collection of the inaccurate half-truths that litter Tumblr. The writer even admits that she neither romanced Sera nor took her out adventuring...
And you pretty much have to if you want to get anything past the superficial, yeah.

The writer doesn't seem to know what she is talking about. It's easy to make anyone look bad when you take their comments out of context. I really hate people who say that Sera is transphobic. Her comments at the winter palace are her repeating what she heard other nobles say. And the joke in the first conversation is just that: a joke, although it is a rather crude and awkward one. Also, I find it hard to believe that anyone could get a good interpretation of her character without taking her out and talking to her lots. The writer doesn't appear to have paid close enough attention to what Sera actually says in her dialogue, except when it's something she can quote to make Sera look as bad as possible.
Not to my knowledge. With actually different sentient species to worry about, skin colour seems to be at most a minor issue in-world. Added to that, the idea that she started as a character with dark skin is a half-truth. There are concept art pictures with both pale and dark skin.I'll say it sounds like she expects skin color to be a much bigger deal than it is in Thedas. Besides Celene bullying Briala for her darker skin tone in Masked Empire, no, skin color doesn't matter in Thedas. There's no social stigmata over someone being lighter or darker. No sees Ser Barris as a black man or Aveline as a white woman in Thedas. Their seen as Fereldens and humans, and that's about it.

So Dorian and Vivienne is racist for their comments about Antivans? Varric and Solas are xenophobic against humans? This article acts as if Sera is the only character that can be an intolerant jerk in this game.
Look, Sera isn't supposed to be a role model is she? She's a character first and a lesbian second, and from what I've seen from her character her negative qualities have nothing to do with her lesbianism. So why act as if she's an embarrassment for that entire sexuality? I'm black and find Vivienne terrible but that doesn't mean I think her inclusion in Inquisition has had a negative effect on the overall portrayal of African Canadians. Her being black has nothing to do with why I think she's horrible.
So unless their's a stereotype about lesbians being racist towards elves I don't see how her portrayal is bad for that sexuality. If anything Sera breaks many stereotypes about lesbians. There's no bed room death, no feminazism and no I want kids and a picket fence moment.
Okay, so..... The Garden is planted. It's... I don't really know what it is. But it's definitely a thing.

I don't remember that happening, actually.
Anyway regarding Sera, she's certainly bound to run a lot of people the wrong way for one reason or another. And I can't really say they'd necessarily be wrong to feel that way about her, but that's exactly how real people work. If Sera is a lesbian, and she also is who she is. That doesn't make her except from having traits or flaws that other people, including other lesbians, might dislike.

Got that from the wiki awhile back so it could be false.

Agreed. If someone doesn't like Sera that's fine. There's alot not to like. But hating her because she's a lesbian that happens to have negative qualities they don't like just seems wrong to me. Why can't she have those negative personality quirks and not judged even more harshly because she's gay? If she acted like a walking stereotype that was defined by her sexuality and the ridiculous stereotypes that sexuality has had to deal with (i.e. Psycho Lesbian) , I'd get the problem.
Ugh. Maybe I'm fill crap and have this all wrong, I'm not a lesbian after all, but that article just bugs me.
WildOchild last time I heard is stuck in the Ditcher! ciri kidnapped her! and if ya guys worried..send her a PM ! ![]()
As for the article , I like to say Stop telling me what represent me as a Lesbian . I represent me and I choose what represent me . Nobody else !

I'd not only say she doesn't know what she's talking about but also question what made her determine all the stereotypes she's heaped on Sera. I'm pretty sure Sera DID break the mold, she doesn't really fit any of the tropes normally found in games regarding gay/bi women.

Well, she was accurate and inaccurate on one thing; Angry lesbian. It seems like it applies directly to her it would seem. Angry lesbian is not a term that would describe myself, my partner, or anyone else in my extended circle of friends and acquaintances.
I think this is a case where they would better make their point by outlining what they still want to see rather than tearing down (and labeling, so many inane labels) what is.
White Feminist sounds like a cocktail.

It really does. What would the constituents be?
That's a really sweet story Temp!
There were a number of things I kind of wanted my Inquisitrix to comment on so I used it as her opportunity to do so.
Her comments at the winter palace are her repeating what she heard other nobles say.
I've heard this interpretation before, but I don't think it's exactly that. What I think she's doing is sharing information that she's been told by her Red Jenny contacts. She knows the things that nobles want to keep quiet because if they were public knowledge then their position in "the game" would be affected, but that servants, working intimately with their masters as they do, find out and tell to Red Jenny.

I think this seems more likely. If the nobles knew such things about their rivals, they would either hoard them for later leverage or have used them already. They wouldn't gossip about them at the ball where just anyone (e.g. Sera) could hear them - unless gossip was how they were leveraging the info, of course. It makes far more sense for Sera to have gotten the info from her contacts, since that is absolutely her thing and exactly why an Inquisitor might take her to the ball.
Well... that and the company
