Most are the normal poison spiders from the rest of the game so they are not too big. There's just that one giant one which is part of the quest I mentioned. It's big but perhaps not quite so big as the hugest ones in DA2...

Well, I'm still ages away from getting there anyways. Inkeri is still at level 12 or so, and I'm not tackling this as a dual dagger rogue, lol.

If you are playing on casual you can go there at 15-16, normal at 17-18, hard 20-21, and nightmare 23+.
My first time through was on nightmare and I went there at 24, got my butt handed to me until I updated all my gear and changed some of my tactics.

Aidan's Level 20 and I've not even done Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts or been to the Hissing Wastes or Emprise du Lion yet. I'm such a terrible completionist. I'm sure he'll be level 24 by the time I get there...
On a side note, I've now killed all ten dragons with Tressa (Plus Hakkon and Cory's one) and four with Aidan, but haven't got the Dragon's Bane achievement. *grumblemumble*
That was supposed to have been fixed for good in P5. Did you start those plays before P5? Also, are you console or PC?
Way before. Tressa was my original from November and Aidan is from January. A combination of my slow play style, my completionist tendencies and lack of free time means that it takes me a long while to get through a campaign. That one looks like Snowball in Crestwood. It seems to come back to life and reappear somewhere else, but that's just another chance to kill it.

If you have a save right before a dragon kill, you "should" be able to kill and reload over and over for the achievement. I got mine back before P5 but had to do it over 2 plays because 2 kills didn't sync with Origin on my first play. You may also have a port blocking issue, and I would suggest you open ports in your firewall to allow port traffic through:

Why would such a port issue block that one achievement and not all the others? As I recall I have everything else except the one for completing on Nightmare and the one you only get if you drink from the well.

Just remember to bring Sera with you Dazzle, her Tempest abilities can put a real hurtin' on the baddies you encounter in the Basin
Yeah, I would definitely bring Sera, Dazzle. Sera's thousand cuts saved me from having my party wiped on several occasions. Jaws of Hakkon is harder than the vanilla game, that's for sure.
And the spiders aren't so bad, it's just that there is a lot of them and sometimes they surprise you.

Ser and serah are different words. Ser is a title of lower nobility in Ferelden, basically like a real world sir (for knights) only gender neutral and with less complex feudalism around it. Serah is a Free Marcher common form of address (also gender neutral because Schrodinger protagonists).

Well, I mean when you are at river level. There are plenty of bits at considerably greater altitude where the spiders don't come!
