so i found a thing. audio clip of sera talking about the Mythal fight if you broke up. and 1. it hurts my soul a bit the idea of breaking up with her. but it really shows how much she grew? and i'm not sure if you guys have heard it (or experienced it) but here.. a great moment though, I'm sure some needed this closure.. having an option to get back together would've been great but hey you get angst.

Oh, wait, this wasn't in the game. Never mind, it's just garden-variety stupidity.

Anyway, hello again. Since we were talking about songs about Sera, I have to say that this is the first one that came to mind regarding my own relationship with Sera over the, well, over a year by this point.

Spoiler

But... in the end, I do love her, and I'm trying to find a more charitable one.

Do you agree or disagree with this statement: Realistically speaking, if Sera was indeed in a loving relationship with a Dalish Inquisitor, there are certain things that she does say in the main game that she wouldn't actually say. Such as, for instance, way too much victim-blaming in Jaws of Hakkon.

I haven't played Jaws of Hakkon, so I couldn't say.

We've talked before about the assertion that Sera's comments in JoH are "victim blaming". I didn't buy it then and I'm unlikely to now, as I don't see underdog as necessarily equalling blameless victim. All that said, I think that Sera would regret saying a few things with time, but I doubt that would stop her in the moment.

It's not that; I mean, Fenris did, but I didn't care. I don't have a problem with what Sera says per se, so much as I think that, well, it's just not compatible with a Dalish Inquisitor. Sera never acts like she has a Dalish girlfriend, regardless of whom she happens to be dating.

I guess the upshot is that I find it irksome that I have to write fanfiction for the Sera relationship to seem remotely realistic.

I think it's more that her attitude may not be compatible with the particular Dalish Inquisitor you want to play. Some are going to be thoroughly invested in Dalish culture. Their Dalishness is a point of pride for them and their elvishness a key facet of their identity, and they're going to be interested in ancient Arlathan and hellbent on recovering the past. They want to celebrate (and mourn) their heritage.

Others aren't. When they were with their clan they were more interested in surviving the wilderness than dwelling on how great the People used to be, and they have no desire to live in a world with no Veil. Hahren started in with tales of ancient glory and they rolled their eyes and mimed blah, blah behind his back.

So, if I'm roleplaying as the former, I'm supposed to just not romance Sera to maintain immersion, even if she likes everything else I do?

No, that's why I said may not be compatible. If you get along otherwise, then whatever she says in JoH is a hurdle to be overcome but not necessarily an insurmountable one.

(That's the attitude I took when rivalmancing Fenris, anyway...)

Have you considered role-playing someone who's just ****ing celibate?

So to speak.

If your character likes Sera in other ways, maybe you just have to RP her as seeing changing Sera's views of the Dalish as a long-term goal rather than one that can be quickly accomplished...

Sera just has some very specific deal breaking hangups, that I don't think she would change for the Inquisitor, at least not in time to save a relationship. I can't exactly claim to be an expert on relationships, but sometimes people just do have irreconcilable differences.

What would Sera think of Kirkwall? Would she like to play with the giant chains as much as Inky does? :bandit:

I think she'd share Dorian's "Bit of a shithole" feelings on it; it's hard to imagine her having warm feelings for a place where occasional bursts of gas choke large numbers of little people to death, not to imagine the omnipresent slave imagery that generations of Andrastians haven't seen fit to get rid of.

I am also going to write some fanfiction about my Inquisitor and Sera, in large part to see if I actually know her voice.

Alert! Alert! Smutty innuendo detected! Paging Cat!

I think it would depend on the state of Kirkwall. If it's been repaired enough that the nobles are back in Hightown in force, then I'm sure she'd keep herself amused. I was going to say that she'd get on better with Varric when he's in his element, but he's Viscount now, so... Interesting times... Maybe they could form an accord where she would harrass arsey nobles who were being greedy and hindering regeneration...

I'd read that fic.

Yep, I can't imagine she'd be too fond of all the assholes and corruption and general wtfuckery. But punching nobs in the throat? Aw yeah.

Cara bella won't mind. B)

Egads, I have a fierce need for Viscount!Varric + Sera interaction. In my playthrough Varric has Shokrakar and Co. working for Aveline, so I'm trying to imagine the sheer madness of the Viscount's office... It's a terrifying thought. Poor Bran.

To be fair, her "victim-blaming" comes right after finding out from Ameridan that the elves of the Dales weren't going to be helping the humans fight a Blight. As someone who experienced the horrors of such a thing even at very young age, she's not going to be very sympathetic towards anyone who decides not to help.

I've been kind of wondering lately about whether BioWare could use Sera again and in a way that impacts on Elves in Thedas.

It's clear that Solas is going to be an antagonist in the 4th game. He will have a powerful sway over the Elves and the epilogue for Trespasser suggests that large numbers of Elves are following him.

So that got me thinking: I don't think BioWare wish to make the Elves out to be some bad race in the series so there has to be a counter to Solas. Someone who argues for a different way. Granted that does not appear to be Sera given what we see of her in DAI but we are also seeing her as a fresh new character here who is still very young and I wonder if she might yet evolve into someone who could be a voice. I admit it's probably not in the cards but I could see it being written that way and also how it could be done. I suspect they'll throw in a new character though but I'd still like to see a Sera, influenced by her time with the Inquisition, returning to play some role in helping to stop Solas.

Am I completely out of my mind here or does anyone else harbor similar hopes?

I do not want Solas to be an antagonist, or at least not an obvious one. I believe in his cause, I just also believe that it needs to be carried out in a less destructive way. Attempting to paint the entire concept of wanting to fix the damn planet as evil is ****** asinine.

They seem clearly to be setting him up as the antagonist, if not for the next game, then at some time in the future. That doesn't mean that you won't be able to oppose his plans by seeking an alternate means of "fixing the planet" that doesn't involve destroying all sentient life that's connected to the fade, as opposed to simply destroying him.

I actually have a feeling that the Dwarves will be connected to whatever solution they come up with. They are, after all, separate from the fade and conventional magic.

As to Sera returning, I could see what Nub is suggesting, but I don't know... It depends on how long after Inquisition the game is set.
