Have I said before that Sera reminds me a bit of Malcolm X, in his early years before he became a civil rights leader?

If so I don't remember it Xil, how does Sera remind you of Malcolm X?
To quote myself from a PM...
I was reading a book about his early life when DAI came out, and in his late teens/early 20s, he was a street hustler who'd been utterly disillusioned by his parents' work in civil rights, and was perfectly content to remain a criminal and never reach for anything greater for himself or his race. Then, after an attempt to fence stolen goods went wrong and he was arrested, he joined the Nation of Islam in prison and became an ardent, to the point of militancy, civil rights leader. Sera's younger than he was when he converted, and it made me think... Sera already has the inner fire needed to fight for what she sees as right; all she needs it for it to be stoked, and for some of her illusions to be dispelled. She is, at heart, a good person; there are just a few things that she doesn't see.

No I don't think so. Sera has a very specific antipathy to taking anything too seriously. Which would be the type of thing needed to become a rebel for a cause in the vein of Malcolm X. She looks down on zealots for any type of cause, be it on behalf of mages, templars, elves or the Chantry. She wouldn't just be not interested, I think she would actively reject that type of attitude, much like she does elfiness.
If anything I'd say Sera is almost militantly anti-militant.

Well of she's a good person, she's Sera!
Back to your original post I think Sera has already found her cause in life unlike the young former civil rights leader. And her cause is making life miserable for nobility, helping out the common person, and reminding those that view themselves as better than everyone else that they're not.

I'll grant that she's... marginally better adjusted, psychologically, than he was at the time. I'm not saying that she'd become militant, but I do think that she could see that the issues with "little people" are systematically focused against elves and act to fight that.

True enough. But we do see her adapting, changing her methods to be more forward-thinking and constructive. She still has growing up to do.

It's pretty hard for me to ever imagine Sera would ever dedicate herself to a specifically pro-elven cause of any kind. Her un-elfiness is just so central to her personal identity. The growing up her character did by the time Trespasser roles around is more about her no longer being so bitter as to go out of her way to be actively hostile to the idea.

Personally, I think that following Solas is the better choice, provided you can help him find a way to accomplish his goal in a less destructive manner.

Solas and Sera are opposite extremes. Sera cares too little for the past, and Solas cares too much,

What? But BioWare would never put two companions with massively conflicting world views together in the same game! It's unprecedented! ![]()

Yeah but destroying the world really sucks, and the threat of it kind of ruins anything else he might be offering.
I mean he could be offering free education and macaroons for everyone but I still wouldn't want to help if that was the risk.

While I like Solas, I think he's a well written character and I'm looking forward to him as the antagonist in DA4, his whole 'destroy the entire world' plan doesn't sit well with me. Team Sera all the way!

Perhaps there is another option. Perhaps there is an option that takes Elves forward and not backwards. Perhaps a way out of what Solas and the Dalish represent.
I could almost see Solas as Lenin. He's freed the slaves/peasants/workers and smashed the state only his genius lay solely in doing only that. Perhaps it is up to another to show the Elves their proper way forward?
Just tossing that out there for you to chew on. Nibble a bit. Savor it. Digest it possibly. ![]()
