I think it more probable that Sera is actually Iona's daughter. Iona is the eleven handmaiden in the Human Noble origin story in DA:O.

That doesn't fit at all. Sera's been an orphan, spent years in in lady Emmald's care and is back on the streets before the blight hits.

Probably explains why I hadn't considered it as a Sera backstory before.

Guys, guys, I commissioned some Seradaar art.

Enjoy!

(And I will eventually have fics, once writing commences again. Soon, hopefully!)

Excellent! And the artist's other work is great, too! :)

Some lovely Seradaar. Somewhat nsfw because it's a little suggestive.

Iona has a daughter, her husband died of disease, she dies because of Howe's attack. So Sera would be still be an orphan. Lady Emmald could have been a friend of the Couslands took her in, when Sera found she was a ******, Sera ran away found her way into the Red Jennies. It's IMHO more probable than her being like Solas or Flemeth.

I never said that I bought the Andruil theory. It's just in-the-air speculation that's based on inference and "hints" drawn from various places. It might be true but in my opinion there's no compelling reason to believe it.

Your theory, however, flat out contradicts the facts as we know them. Sera was an orphan before she was taken in by Emmald which is years before the blight. She doesn't remember her parents. Sera was actually left Emmald's estate in her will when she died (also before the blight) but turned it down and ran away (this is explained in World of Thedas vol 2). She makes it fairly clear that she lived on the streets after she left Emmald but not the alienage. At some point she joined up with the Jennies.

Iona's daughter, who is called Amethyne, knows who her mother is and lives in the Alienage. She is seen in Denerim in Origins wondering when her mother will return. Clearly not the same person, sorry.

When Blight hits, Sera is already with the Jenny.

It is directly referenced by her that the painted box you deliver in the Red Jenny quest in Origins is where you almost meet the woman herself.

I think I understand how Solas feels now.

^ To be fair, it sounds like a crapton of people will die. Possibly including Sera herself. And I think the immense loss of life for an abstract greater good would ultimately bother Sera waaay more than the magey hoodoo coming back.

It's one of those things we just won't know til DA4, maybe even DA5.

And that's one reason I feel uncomfortable romancing her as an elf: if she knew that, in my heart of hearts, I didn't want Solas to fail, I think she'd break up with me.

Considering gigadeath to be an acceptable risk when crossing one's fingers and hoping the new plan won't go as badly as the last few plans is a definite relationship killer.

Coz, y'know, blowing up the world is a bad thing for everyone.

Not any other. I think Josephine would understand the internal conflict. Probably Dorian and... well, come to think of it, Sera's the only one who can break up with you on short notice for personal beliefs, so yeah.

Pretty sure "partner endorses a Thedas genocide on the off-chance it might make things better for elves, possibly, if we're really lucky" would be a deal-breaker for any sane person's relationship.

Not endorsing it, being conflicted about it and badly wanting to restore the world to its original state, but torn about the amount of death it might cause.

A state that's only good for one group of people and exterminates everyone else is A Very Bad Thing.  Thedas has lots of different people in it now - better to find some way to coexist than commit genocide in the name of restoring a world that never really existed in the first place, at least as far as the Dalish version of it (i.e. the made-up pipedream based on myth and supposition) goes.  Trying to establish some dream of utopia that never was on the ashes of everyone whose ears are not sufficiently pointy is not the way to go.  There's conflicted and there's neck deep in denial.  The original state (whatever that is/was) is never coming back for anyone, ever.  Pfft, move on already.

But I do feel a little like I've said this already.

Well, then, it would be wonderful if you have an alternative for creating a world in which humans and elves can be fully equal. Please, say so, so that a better future for elves can exist in another way.
