Well, then, it would be wonderful if you have an alternative for creating a world in which humans and elves can be fully equal. Please, say so, so that a better future for elves can exist in another way.

The same way we fight injustice in the real world. Things like making Briala Marquise of the Dales or making Gaspard her puppet. Killing the Magistrate's son and ensuring Lia joins the City Guard. Putting an elf on the Wycome city counsel. Working with Dorian and Mae's Lucerni party. Putting Leliana on the Sunburst Throne so she can enact her reforms. Work towards a more representative government - one that represents all its citizens.

In Solas's world, there's no "fully equal" - just look at Felassan's conversation with Briala from TME.

Great. So, we're getting elven assimilation into human society and human religion working all spiffy-like, but what about elves who want to retain their own society? How will the Dalish be given equality? How will the elves stuck in human society ever be able to do anything other than be more cogs in a society that will never be their own? How will all the nonmage elves with their Fade connection amputated be able to get it back? How can elves not be driven extinct by demographics and human genetic dominance?

What's 'their own society'? Alienage culture? Dalish? Origins introduced the concept of elven Banns for city elves. More of those wouldn't hurt. If the Dalish were granted autonomy and a promise (say, from a very liberal Divine) of a policy of non-harassment from Chantry forces, would that be sufficient?

How will the elves stuck in human society ever be able to do anything other than be more cogs in a society that will never be their own?

Just because you don't view it as their own, doesn't mean they don't. An elf from Redcliffe (or Denerim, or Kirkwall...) may view that as their community, one where they want a presence and a say in how things are run.

How will all the nonmage elves with their Fade connection amputated be able to get it back?

Not everyone wants it back. Many are going to be very adamant about not wanting it back. And for all we know, the elves as we know them will die en masse, and no one will get their magic back except for a few ancient elves and their descendants. What about all the Dalish and city elves who'd rather not die just so their Übermensch ancestors can rule the world with impunity?

How can elves not be driven extinct by demographics and human genetic dominance?

The ones who are concerned about this can do exactly what they've been doing - breed with other elves. Otherwise there's not much to be done about it unless you're cool with killing every other race in the hope that maybe possibly perhaps their death will mean no more winnowing of elven genes.

The Dalish would need more than autonomy, which they have already; they would need land sufficient for all their numbers to gather and live in one place, and extracting that would be hellishly difficult.

This is theoretically possible, though we've also never seen such a person exist.

The ones who do want it back deserve a chance to get it, and the ones who don't want it could simply not use it. If spirits would no longer be forced into yearning for the living, it seems likely there would be no demons, so that problem would be removed. Of course, the casualty rates would be a problem, but that's why I want to find a way to accomplish this goal without them.

Possibly. But it'll be a lot easier with people like Briala and Leliana in positions of power. The biggest hurdle here isn't getting the land, it's keeping it, and it's keeping other landholders from feeling threatened by the sudden influx of elves in their backyard (specifically, elven warriors and mages). That's when you make friends with people like Josephine who know how to appease the neighbors. Convince people that the Dalish need the land, that them having it will benefit the previous landowners in some way. Make them feel like it was their brilliant idea all along and they're going to be less likely to turn on you later.

We've had elves who identified with where they were from rather than what they are, even if they're not activists. Zevran definitely identified as Antivan before anything else. He considered that 'his own' society. A city elf Bann wants a say in how Denerim is run.

I don't think you can choose not to be a mage. Even if you try to suppress it - like Bethany - you're still going to be able to burn down buildings with your mind. I get where you're coming from, but if you're scared of magic or you hate it, I can't imagine anything worse than having it inflicted on you against your will. It doesn't sound like something that can be done on an individual basis, either, where you can ask permission.

Spirits represent concepts and feelings, so I'm sure there will still be Pride, Rage, Fear and Despair, etc. They may be less interested in possessing people if there's no Veil. But I'm sure they'll still cause havoc, since that's their essence.

It would be... interesting if the Veil could be torn down with no casualties. But if the one who put it up says the world's going to burn, I'm not sure how hopeful I am for such a prospect. We won't know until the next game comes out, anyway.

True, and the thread's supposed to be about Sera anyway, so let's get back to that.

Do you think she'd break up with an ambivalent Lavellan if she knew?

I think she'd break up with anybody who was ambivalent about death on that scale, whether it was Lavellan or Adaar or... anyone. And of course there's the possibility that Sera and others she cares for, like Blackwall and Dorian, wouldn't make it out of such a scenario alive, in which case... yeah.

However, just being conflicted in an abstract sense? Wanting things to be better for your people but not knowing how? Can't see why she'd end things, there.

Well, what I'm looking for is a way to accomplish it without so much death. How much of a problem is that?

So only a little bit of death, then. Well I'm sure that will be entirely fine.

If there was a way to do it with no casualties, then you'd have to face the issue of magic for all. Magic for all means magic for Sera, and how she reacts to that depends on whether you think the Sera = Andruil theory is in any way credible. :P

However, if restoration of the elven empire means other races have to vacate the premises, then no she wouldn't be okay with that. She doesn't like 'us versus them' because she likes 'them'. What's your ideal post-Veil world like? Is it elven (or magi) superiority, or equality? Are humans, elves, dwarves, and qunari living in the same communities or are they segregated? What if the elves' genetic problem turns out to be a problem of proximity?

I do think Sera has issues with internalized racism, but that's a somewhat different issue. I don't think it would create my ideal world because my ideal world requires plenty of social reforms as well, but ideally... ideally, the dwarves would have their Stone and Titans and Deep Roads back. The qunari... well, the Qun is evil, so I don't care much about that, but as for the race itself, I'm really not sure how dragonblooded elves (or that's what they seem like, at any rate) would react, so it's kind of impossible to say. Humans, I wouldn't want to displace, but humans and elves would probably have, by and large, different nations to begin with, with maybe some intermingling as the races were able to get more comfortable with each other.

See now, that's not so bad. It's just the methods one takes to get there. (Though I have my doubts that humans and elves will ever have, or in some cases want, that kind of distance between them again. They've kind of been intermingling for a loooong time.)

Actually, I have a couple of meta questions about what an inverse Spellplague would do to classes and races as we know them, but this isn't the thread for that. I'll weasel my way into another one.

I see why certain Lavellan/Sera relationships would be fraught with complication. I always have. I just don't RP my Lavellan that way. :)

I've recently found out that Sera is as young as some suspected.

In that conversation after the events of Adamant, the Inquisitor may mention the Hero of Ferelden. Then Sera says she doesn't remember much of what happened in the 5th Blight because she was a child back then.

Yes. She was old enough to be caught stealing before she went to live with Emmald, then a few years there. Emmald died before the blight and at that point she was still young enough to be "playing with painted boxes." I'd say that she was probably 8-12 during the blight, which puts her late teens/early twenties in the main DAI game.
