(Apologies for copy-pasting a post from the "What did you do today..." thread, but I feel it fitted in both places.)

A couple of nice comments from Dorian and Cassandra about the marriage. I don't recall hearing Dorian's on Tressa's playthrough, possibly because you have to go back and talk to him a second time to hear it. First time is a comment about how long it's been since defeating Corypheus.

Spoiler

How wonderful to scandalise the Orlesian court! It doesn't quite square with Cass having witnessed the wedding as she mentions in her banter with Sera in the Elven ruins, but hey...

Ooo, very neat, YourFunnyUncle! I didn't know these existed. I'm doing a replay right now, and I'll have to see if I can get these comments. (In my first playthrough of Trespasser, Cassandra thought I'd married Cullen. Um, Cass, go home, you're drunk.)

^ I have always loved Dorian saying he'll call Sera Mrs. Inquisitor. He sounds so cheeky and thrilled about it! And I like Blackwall's "she finally made an honest woman out of ya" comment, hahaha~

I've never seen that. Does he say that in the first "Listen to Sera" banter instead of what Cass says here?

Yep, it's here

at about 4:21.

I also love "so foofed you could lose a ham in it". And now I have this darling image of Sera shopping for the perfect wedding dress, something she never thought she'd get to have, getting all bashful and excited in equal measure. Awwww.

I like that, though. I especially like how Sera - once again - highlights what's REALLY important. And if Vivienne's Divine, you get this exchange:

Vivienne: Yes, well, I wish you the best of luck having that recognized.
Sera: Look into my eye, Vivi. Recognize it.

Do NOT **** with the wifey, Viv! She'll break you!

Believe me, if I could have, I would have a long time ago. And not even socially, more Bane-style.

I see why certain Lavellan/Sera relationships would be fraught with complication. I always have. I just don't RP my Lavellan that way. :)

I'm sure any Inquisitor/Sera relationship and/or marriage will have it's complications just like any other relationship. Some of it might come the Inquisitor's family and/or beliefs, or Sera's beliefs and her general attitude towards the Nobility, Elves, and magic. To where they're going they're going to live after the events of Trespasser if the Inquisition is disbanded. I know the coda states that they traveled the world but it's possible that one or both of them would one day want to settle down, or they might want children (Sera says something to the effect that she would like pass on how to bake cookies one day to her kids one day) which would be adoption (or finding a father to impregnate one of them) so there plenty of complications.

Of course every relationship has its ups and downs. I agree with you that plenty of things could potentially go wrong, but Xil was referring specifically to the added problems if you are RPing a Lavellan who is a believer in the Creators and is proud of her Dalish heritage.

In my case I decided that Tressa (who was my first Inquisitor) was an intelligent inquisitive sort. This meant that she did well in terms of being trained to be a first, but also harboured an abiding desire to find out more about the world beyond her clan. She therefore jumped at the chance to attend the Conclave.

My plan from before release was to have Tressa lose faith in the Creators as the game went on and she was exposed to new cultures, ideas and knowledge. Little did I know how well that would work. By the time of Mythal she's decided that the creators were probably some form of powerful magical creatures, and not worthy of her worship. When Sera insists that they're demons she's happy to let that slide despite not 100% agreeing. Of course Trespasser proves her right.

(My current Lavellan Conwenna's game is basically a re-hash of Tressa's with a few kinks ironed out, thereby creating my canon playthrough.)

This is what I was referencing in my reply to Xil, but I didn't go into detail as I've talked to her about it before.

To clarify, my Inquisitor isn't really a doctrinaire zealot for the Creators, but she's not prepared to throw away her cultural heritage and does, ultimately, retain a fair bit of pride in it. And the thing that Sera doesn't quite seem to get is that elves have had to band together to survive and not just be subsumed into humanity. And... well, the Elvhen have lost so much that Eiria would be willing to do a hell of a lot to get it back. Not necessarily blow up the world, but the choice isn't an easy one.

That's pretty much the only way for Lavellan x Sera to prosper.

An elfy Dalish is as likely to forsake elven culture as Cassandra is to stop believing in the Maker.

I was just pointing out that all races and classes will have issues with Sera.

My current play-through is with a female human who is on decent terms with her family, now MAYBE that same family that might accept her being a lesbian and accept someone her marrying Josephine but might never accept any elf as their new daughter-in-law due to old prejudices.

My first mage was a female Qunari who married Sera but even though she loses her arm she is still a mage and Sera is still weary of magic.

A dwarf rouge might never think she's good enough for Sera due to dwarf's caste system.

I don't think you'd really have to forsake elven culture, would you? Just not try to force Sera into following it.

I should say that despite losing faith my Lavellans haven't lost all love of their heritage. They just don't consider it to be more important than their relationship with Sera, and certainly they understand that she's not the sort of person to be convinced by arguing. She seems to learn by experience so they instead decide to act as a counterexample to the zealous Dalish she's met before.

There is nothing wrong pride in one's culture/heritage/religion and it's like you said that it's the zealous Dalish (or the reputation for being zealots) that would drive Sera nuts. And while I don't think Sera is ever going to live with a Dalish clan for more than a few weeks (Sera is a city girl and openly admits that she isn't too fond of the country) before she would leave or be thrown out due to her attitude.

IMHO Sera's biggest problem with elves in general is that she just finds the constant whining about past glory and how screwed the elves gotten to be annoying and is just a waste of time. She's wants to focus on the hear and now solving the problems and fighting the battles of today and not fighting battles centuries old.

I think that Sera would better understand the Dalish if it was explained to her that their culture is designed like it is because they all think of each other as family.

Which the Inquisitor never does. To say you won't change your opinion doesn't equal forcing someone else to agree with you.
