Oh, I'm not sure. But I swore she said something about how Morrigan was creepy/scary in a conversation? Maybe I'm misremembering. Or projecting.

Of course it depends how you RP, but I always thought Adaar's parents (assuming they're alive...) would accept Sera graciously into their family. After all, they fled the Qun to follow their hearts - whether it was for love or personal pride or whatever - so I figure they wouldn't mind their unconventional elven daughter-in-law.

My Issala Adaar brings Sera to meet her parents, Sera teases her wifey about having an attractive mom, Issala's parents play up the joke with Sera, good times had by all. Except for poor Adaar whose has the most uncomfortable family visit ever.

Elf mage Inquisitor Conwenna married her, and told her that she's OK with the revelations about the Creators. It's quite moving near the end...

that is actually a beautiful piece of character development built into the background of the game, DA is so good at that... yes a lot of the lore is just history, but damn if there isn't always some new gem I find that actually pertains to the current story that I missed before...

I like to RP that like the potential Wardens in Origins, all potential Inquisitors (of either gender) exist in the same worldstate, with the only difference is who happened to be at the Conclave and who got the Anchor.

 

In my headcanon (and the fanfic I need to sit down and actually write), I imagine that their respective backgrounds are like so;

Malika and Edric are distant cousins in the Cadash crime family. Edric's side of the family are less traditional and have gone fairly native, while Malika's side consider themselves to be kalnas and try to maintain close ties to Orzammar.

 

Ellana and Mahanon Lavellan aren't actually related at all. The reason for this is that upon reaching maturity and receiving their vallaslin, all members of their clan adopt the surname "Lavellan", in tribute to a former Keeper who sacrificed himself to save the clan during the Fourth Blight.

 

Maxwell and Evelyn Trevelyan are half-siblings, Evelyn's mother having died in childbirth with her and Maxwell being born after their father remarried several years later. They have two elder siblings who are not particular fond of them because of this, although they hide their vitriol whenever their father happens to be present.

 

Herah Adaar is actually Karaas' mother, having had him at the age of 18 after a brief tryst with a fellow mercenary. Despite wanting to put down her weapons to raise her son, she was forced to continue working to make ends meet, leaving Karaas to be raised primarily by her parents. I picture Herah being in her late thirties by the time of Inquisition and Karaas being around 19.

 

As for how they react to the relationship between Adaar/Sera, I see both Herah's parents and Karaas being supportive and accepting of his mother and Sera being together (and even ending up married). The elder Adaar's both left the Qun after they broke the rules by falling in love, while Karaas is the sort of guy who'd take an immediate shine to Sera.

 

Yeah... I tend to overthink my headcanons a little bit.

So after watching the latest Suicide Squad trailer, was I the only one who didn't immediately think of Sera when they heard "You Don't Own Me"... or at least think that Sera would definitely cosplay as Harley Quinn?

Yeah. Funny thing is, her education is poor, but her intelligence is average at worst... and let's face it, she is not a Friend of the Red Jenny. She is THE Red Jenny. You can't be a Red Jenny without having them cleverz...

I think that Sera does hide her intelligence.

 

We've seen a few signs that elves who don't decide to play dumb around Shems tend to get noticed as a result and the results tend to not be pleasant. Or maybe she fears rejection from people knowing that's she's actually a bit of a clever-clogs, in addition to being the resident smart Alec. Just look how defensive she gets over knowing some details of elven history and religion (that she doesn't even believe in) in Jaws of Hakkon.
