I dunno, part of me still thinks that Sera could have used that money more wisely.

Some of it was seized by the Ferelden crown to help rebuild during the Blight, so I suppose it did help in a roundabout way, but if she'd taken the ludicrous amount of money at the start, she could have use that money to help the poor across half of Fereldan and Orlais. Instead she lets the estate and her trust get whittled down to a fraction of what it started at, before she considers donating what's left to the Chantry to help orphans, as well as a whip round in the Gnawed Tavern.

I know that it's the principle of the thing, but even if she didn't want the money herself, the 28 grand she was bequeathed by Emmald could have helped a lot more people, than the 8 grand she donated to dissolve the estate.

She probably could have, but look how young she was. Almost certainly younger than she is now. I think in her mind all she wanted to do was push that money away because it was "tainted" and she felt dirty accepting it.

I still think it says something about her attitude towards wealth, regardless of whether those funds could have been used to help others. She could have spent all that money on herself - that could have been an equal "eff you" to Emmald as her refusing it in the first place. But she wanted nothing to do with it.

Say - that scene looks familiar.

Inky --> Tadwinks --> Buckles & Sera have officially tied the knot. Sera Adaar is a thing.

I'm so glad she continues with the diary in Trespasser - I always loved reading it. Me, the player. Buckles would never dream of violating her privacy in that manner.

Or would she?

I should be finished with Trespasser soon. I'm trying to decide what my next play will be.

Her diary is my favorite! Sweet bits like the little hair bracelet thing or her remembering the dance at Halamshiral... and then in Trespasser with all the bits about marriage and family and belonging.

I also love where she tries to learn more about your culture. I don't know what she says for humans or elves but these cracked me up:

Book. Learn Qunari stuff for her. It's all–wow. (Sketch of Sera biting her bottom lip, hard.)

Book. Learn dwarf stuff for her. It’s all small! (Sketch of Sera as a giant, Cadash laughing on her shoulder.)

One measly Chantry would never have held all the guests Josie would want to invite! She needs time and a better venue is all. ;)

There is no excuse for not even being able to bring the topic up. Even The Iron Bull has the option to bring it up.

I doubt That's a consolation for Hanako, considering they could've at least put a dialogue about it.

Yeah. I would have accepted a proposal scene and then a bit of dialogue about getting things ready when this was over, but no we didn't get anything

I'm not sure what to tell you? I'm sorry you're disappointed and I think it's fair to feel that way, but you're not able to bring up marriage with Fenris or Leliana or Morrigan despite the fact that you could marry Sebastian/Alistair/Anora.

Anora isn't a companion.
The situations are a bit different though. Alistair/Anora marriages were plot based, as it's shown by the HN Warden being the only one able to do such. Seb was a dlc character. DAI's vanilla game have no options like that, they added marriages proposal and talking in the dlc. I don't see why they couldn't do so with everyone, at that point.

Seb was a DLC character... and Trespasser was a DLC. It would have been nice if it'd been addressed with every companion, but as with DAO and DA2 it wasn't.

And I am upset I couldn't even bring it up my LIs in those ones too. But what makes Josephine's more hurtful is two things. First, hers was the perfect romance for me and I know that there won't be one that close again, at least in Dragon Age. Second, it fit perfectly with her romance(we literally duel her suitor for her hand) whereas with the others I could understand. So the fact that she is one of the only ones who can't even talk about it while others can talk about it or even do it sucks.

Josephine is companion-tier character. Anora wasn't.
The previous games added one option per game, and There were plot reasons (and Sebastian's marriage happen in the main game, not in a dlc). There weren't in Trespasser, and they added multiple options of marriages as Well as marriage talks.
I don't personally care about it, but DAI is a different case from DAO and DA2.

The best bit about marrying Sera is that she asks you.

I agree that it's weird that you can't bring it up with Josephine in Trespasser. I also agree that an actual marriage with her could never happen within the confines of the DLC timescale. It would have to be just the promise of something in future, as she would devote spend weeks and months to planning, and she's probably the busiest of all the LI's during Trespasser.

I'd forgotten that she'd have been extremely young when she first inherited it, as well as a moody teenager during the years they pestered her about it.

I agree that she probably turned down the money because she felt it was somewhat "tainted", perhaps thinking it might corrupt her in some way. It might be why she takes a while to warm to Varric during their party banter, not trusting him because she doesn't know why a noble would act like a commoner?

I'd have loved to have seen some of her sketches - especially the not mustache - heh.

This is my only playthrough thus far. And I have this annoying tendency to not want to do anything different. Love playing a Qunari and romancing Sera. I was thinking about playing a human Josie-mancing rogue who really identifies with her nobility - but I expect that will create a lot of friction with Sera. I'm also interested in taking on the apparent challenge of an elf mage mancing Sera.

I left myself some additional new content to explore next time. I've not done the JoH DLC, haven't been to Hissing Wastes, and only killed 8 dragons. I'll have a full Golden Nug next go, though - I plan to snag one from the nexus.

Oh yeah, contrast the way she acts with Varric versus Dorian. Dorian may be slumming it, but he never tries to pretend he's not - he's always a noble even when he's trudging in mud and drinking shitty Ferelden beer, whereas to her Varric is a rich guy from an influential family who plays at being a commoner. I think she just feels that it's all very disingenuous, hence "weirdie."

I'm the same way. Even with so many options, I love Sera so much and I think her romance is so well done that I have difficulty going for anyone else. (It doesn't help that my other favorite LIs are Dorian and Bull, and I prefer to hook them up with each other!)

Josie's romance is really sweet and I think you'll enjoy it. It's funny to see her so flustered. And no worries, as long as your noblewoman remembers she's 'people' you'll stay on Sera's good side. ;) And there are quite a few Sera/Lavellan fans in this thread, so you certainly won't be alone.

I love Jaws of Hakkon, but then again I love the Avvar in general. Plus bears. And lore. And banter, including the quote in my sig! As for new content, switching up your race and spec really does make the game feel different, especially where Sera's concerned but also at the Winter Palace, conversations with several companions, ambient gossip... it's fun.

It would have been really lovely if every LI could have had a get engaged scene.

It is, I think, a difficult thing to balance - I suspect there are some characters who might be willing to romance some characters they would not marry. The writers may have had a fair bit of trouble trying to sort that out.

Given her position, would Josie actually marry anyone other than a non-mage human male? Anything else could be quite scandalous in high society, and wreck her ability to ever work as an ambassador or diplomat again - not to mention destroy her standing in her own house. I'd be hard-pressed to want to do that to her, and if the writers made that content available only to non-mage human male Inquisitors, they'd still have a lot of angry customers.

Dorian presents similar issues due to his position.

For Sera, it represents a culmination of her arc, a healing of sorts, being fully accepted and valued by someone she treasures. She and Blackwall were really the only 2 that I felt came across as damaged goods, where marriage might help to complete their arcs.

Yes. The answer is emphatically yes. Her family agrees with her openly dating the Inquisitor, the epilogue mentions the Inquisitor being seen as a member of the family, and the devs say that it is perfectly accepted headcanon that they get married. As for her position, at the end of the game she stops being an ambassador to take her position as head of the Montilyet family, so nothing to worry about there. Plus even if she stayed an ambassador, most people saw it as a good partnership rather than being scandalous in a negative way. This all apllies regardless of race, race, or class.

You mention the marriage for Sera being the culmination of her arc, yet marrying Josephine is exponentially more so since again, her romance quest is literally dueling her fiance for her hand.

It is, I think, a difficult thing to balance - I suspect there are some characters who might be willing to romance some characters they would not marry. The writers may have had a fair bit of trouble trying to sort that out.

Clearly, since in three games only females get LIs where marriage is an option. Apparently Bioware doesn't think men or people who play men want to get married.

Dorian presents similar issues due to his position.

Dorian only presents an issue because it is obvious he is going to play a big role in the next Dragon Age game so they want as few variables as possible.

For Sera, it represents a culmination of her arc, a healing of sorts, being fully accepted and valued by someone she treasures. She and Blackwall were really the only 2 that I felt came across as damaged goods, where marriage might help to complete their arcs.

I don't see how it is a culmination for her where she is one of the two who gets it. Personally I think it was just Bioware showing how progressive they are since around the time Trespasser came out was when gay marriage became legal in America, their biggest market.
