once again I am a straight male and I'm playing a female character to romance her, its not going to hurt to play as a woman

Well i'm a straight female and still am happy to romance Sera even though she doesn't fit my sexuality, but let's understand not everyone really likes role playing. I wish they did cos I find it so enjoyable to play someone in game that I'm not in real life, but I can see their disappointment as well.

Not everyone can play the opposite gender. I personally wanted to romance Cass but i can't play dudes so I won't romance her... maybe one day and when i have the mood to roll a dude.

It's not that easy for some people.

Can never have too much of tthat gif

Ikr, quizzy's face always gets me. Totally not expected.

Me, I can play dudes with little trouble. It's fun to mess around with the beard options.

I find Cole's face is the best thing in that gif. *Hit the deck!*

Given how poorly Bioware has been treating the lesbian community as of late, I wonder if we really should be so excited about Sera...

I'm always ask, "but don't you feel some disconnect playing a female PC ?" and I'm like "Well, I would feel disconnect playing a burly white dude with short hair anyway, so since simply cannot play a character I can identify with, I at least play with a charctecr I can like."

Huh.... In Origins the only option for lesbians was Leliana. In DA2 there was Isabela and Merril. Now we have Sera and Josephine.

Quantity aside, I'm not worried about the quality. All the characters we've had so far had distinct personalities with both qualities and flaws. I've hated some of them but not because they were poorly written.

I'm trying to think of character from the DA franchise that made me go 'come on, who acts/talks like that?' but really, I can't think of one. I may end up not liking Sera, but I don't think it will be because she's badly written. Or at least not so badly that I'll wonder what sort of freaky alien creature designed her personality. :D

Well, the last lesbian Bioware character, Samantha, had a rather poorly written romance. The last lesbian characters in the DA franchise, Briala and Celene, were plunged into utter ruination for spurious reasons. So I'm not exactly brimming with confidence here, except for the fact that Weekes is not writing Sera when he wrote both of the aforementioned.

And I'm angry largely about the writing budget being so terribly skewed towards straight women, for some reason.

I'm a gay lady and i only play gay ladies.

If you can play women, more power to you. Not everyone plays the same way as you do. ^_^

Yeah, except, often I have to actually stop...

And think... "Would a woman do that?"

'Cos, y'know. "How to understand women: Season 1, Episode 1, Chapter 1" - 1500 pages.

Old joke, but hey.

I'm a gay lady and I can play gay, grouchy, snobby, silly and  crazy ladies. I have range like that. :P

The ideal way to lighten my mood is to engage in discussion, else my rage will just continue to linger within me like a burning storm cloud.

I'm a straight female. My canon Warden is a female Aeducan who romanced Leliana and the most fun romance I had was with Traynor. If I have no interest in Sera, it's because the personality type drives me bonkers. And even that's negotiable if I can come up with a good Inquisitor.

Well sorry to disappoint you, but I'm in this thread to discuss Sera and have fun. If you want to talk about equal opportunity relationships in Bioware Games and complain about it, this is not the place.

paranoia/10

Paranoia was the sensible reaction with TME, and it was the sensible reaction with DAI's romance options; in fact, in both instances, things were actually worse than I feared. I'm sure as hell not going to get burned a third time.

As you wish, but it seems to be a terribly open question as to how fun Sera's romance will actually be.

Makes my choice easier, I was torn between Cassandra, Josephine and Sera. Since my first Inquisitor will be male it's down to the first two now.  ^_^

The factors that lead the the break up of Celene and Briala had nothing to do with them being lesbians.

See, I'd like to believe that, but there's a long-established tradition of gay couples in all forms of media being completely screwed over at a far higher proportional rate than straight couples. Including in the DA series, and with lesbian couples, it keeps happening through betrayal.

Wasn't it because Briala was an Elf? I haven't read TME.

It's funny because that's oftentimes how I feel myself. The assumption that I will necessarily identify with the dude I'm playing just because I'm a dude myself just doesn't cut it.

When it comes to protagonist gender and romances, it's entirely a matter of personal preference to me. I will choose a female and romance male characters if that's the only way to explore those romances. I will also choose to play as a female if I think the male counterpart is a boring brick.
