I'd also point out that the vast majority of the non-PC relationships are deeply dysfunctional or tragic, regardless of orientation.

Except that all the ones that aren't, of which there are several, are straight, except for Wade/Herren and with no lesbian ones.

Nope.Wasn't it because Briala was an Elf? I haven't read TME.

And I'm angry largely about the writing budget being so terribly skewed towards straight women, for some reason.
The 2 extra straight romances were added in due to longer dev time. I don't think it was a matter of budgeting per se. I don't know, but my reasoning is it wasn't done with an explicit intent to favor a certain group but to just give more LIs now that they had time. That it ended up happening is sad and unfortunate.
Btw I'm not defending my right to have 4 LIs options (technically I have 8 cos I want to romance everyone) while others get half that, so please don't misunderstand. I don't like that it is skewed and I wish that it wasn't.

I mean I am happy. 2 options is more than I usually get, and I have a feeling these characters will be more fully rounded than DA2 which sometimes made them feel flat. Honestly I was happy at 2/2/2, I wished for 2/4/2, and was hopeful of the magical 3 options that ME2 had, but I am fine.
I also think there will be some NPCs that will show their preferences. I don't count Celene, she is one of the worst representations of lesbians imo thinking about how racist she was to her lover and being nostalgic about it. And it wasn't even Human racism toward Elves, it was real world racism toward Black people, something I thought Thedas avoided.
Briala, on the other hand, would rock.

Why not make the preexisting romance options better, then?

Ouch indeed. D: I really do wish we could "fix" their rs somehow. But I doubt this will happen.

As for what Sera's romance will be like. I expect something that's pretty light and fun, probably the least angsty of the romances. The Inquisitor may get a chance to be protective of Sera, who seems the most overtly frightened by demons. Smart girl.

She seems to have shades of cloudcukcoolander if that tidbit about the hat is anything to go by.
Everyone else: *serious stuff*

Yes, I'd rather have less but fair options than more but unfair options. I've no idea why they didn't think favoring another group will cause the same problem of a different kind. That said I won't lie, I like all 8 LI options at least a little bit so far, so more is in that sense good for me personally but that's not what is good for everyone. I do sympathize how sucky this must be for those who are stuck with 2 options in comparison.

I hope this is the case. I plan to roleplay a pro-chantry (tho not anti-mage per se) human warrior to romance her so I do expect some angst seeing that Sera dislikes nobility and all that. But by and large I hope this is the romance that's happy and fun cos many of my inquisitors are in for an angsty ride and I'd want something 'normal and healthy' among all that.

Then that whole book's torments happened for nothing and it's utterly worthless.

The books is not just about Celene and Briala's couple, the book is focused on the Orlais's civil war and how their couple got sucked in.

Bah. Regardless, Sera. What pitfalls should be watchful for?
The lack of showers will at least probably invalidate the imbecilic Samantha romance hook from ME3, so that's something, but my current worry is whether her romance will come across as more shallow than those of other PCs, or even more likely, completely unimportant to the plot like Cassandra's won't be.

i agree. I think Celene has proven she isn't worthy of Briala a thousand times over. Now, Briala does deserve a happy ending and kinda hope she shows up.

I feel the same. I think it's going to be similar to Garrus' romance in that sense (fun and lighthearted etc.)

And Sera is someone we definitely need, and not just as romance. Too much seriousness gets boring.

Well, she does fill a necessary role. And I'm hoping (bah, hope still) that she clicks with my Inquisitor due to being the one who can make her laugh.

I've said this a thousand times before, but ever since I've discovered Team 'Seeker's Last Nerve', I've wanted Sera along on my adventures. Oh, Cassandra. I can't get into your pants but I will get under your skin! (I might have said that before... I can't remember.)

I don't think she will be needed in the plot, but I do think she will be important. There is nothing about Sera that says "porny" rough, crude, funny woman who probably get us in a lot of trouble and may or may not grind the nerves, yes. But there is nothing so far to make me think she is just there for a sex symbol.
