Blast it all, is there anything where lesbian relationships can happen without that much drama?
It's not just the gay romances that have their issues in this show also the heteros ones too. Everyone got angst.

But there are also plenty of examples of happy, non-angsty hetero romances. I can hardly say the same about queer romances, expecially lesbian ones.

That, precisely.
Ah, ****.
It must be a tiny niche, lesbian relationships between stable people that go smoothlyish... surely conflict can be had in other parts of the plot?
Who wants to see a stable relationship? That makes for a boring story. I know what a stable relationship is just by looking at my parents. 39 years of marriage would make for a very boring tv show. ![]()

That's why a stable relationship is the light to fight for in a story about conflict in other areas. I hate seeing people be made unhappy by romantic issues.
Are you really saying that fifteen years of marriage, followed by a very angry divorce (VERY...!) are much better?
As a son of one such, I'm tellin' ya...
That stuff is NOT fun.

I'd argue that you can't have a stable relationship in the middle of any kind of conflict but then my parents are also a terrible example since they are the most unromantic and rather boring people I know. lol

Fun in real life, hell no. Makes for good Drama in a story though which is why you very rarely see stable relationships in TV dramas. After all, if they were stable then they would not be dramas.
That said, I can understand the want to see a stable lesbian romance on TV as a positive role model.

I think the setting doesn't really help either, they are stuck in a hostile environment, things aren't gonna be rosy for these women at the best of times. Plus when others have their time served they leave and yeah sadly they abandon their prison lover. It's just a harsh fact of life for those women.
Good point, prisons might not be the best setting for stable relationships. lol

I think most Bioware games have it worked out.

Yes, remarkably so.

And I understand this, but the problem is that the 99% of the time a lesbian couple is introduced somewhere their relationship ends badly.
It's one thing to have a setting where it might make sense for the relationship to not be all flowers and roses, it's an entirely different one to always have it be that way, even when the setting would allow for an healthy, happy relationship.
To be completely honest, the "two women can't be happy together" clichè stinks and it would be great if it died once and for all.

I feel yeah, and I've had my fill of angsty queer RL's, would be great if Sera's will end on a happy note. Need some joy as this game looks hella bleak.

Well, there's L Word... despite all teh drama for the sake of teh drama, the show has lesbian relationships who at the end, survived. ![]()
I agree with you btw.

I don't think that trope has really ever applied to the player's relationships, though.
Leliana and the Warden ended happily enough, even if circumstance parted them. Isabela and Merrill too, unless we find out something awful happened in DA:I.
Do you guys know why Sera (and no one else) has this icon in her profile pic in the DAI site?

The thing with Leliana is not a happy one if it's not repaired, though.

Aye, but it's a drop in an ocean full of "lol, two girls can never ever be happy together". I have quite the collection of comic books and there is literally one of them where the two girls protanists end up together in happy relationship. Tears of joy were streaming down my cheeks when I finished reading it, I was all like "Omg, finally!".
Spoiler
I am fundamentally allergic to lesbian relationships that end badly, which is why I don't indulge in this show or in any other that both focuses on them and screws them over.

Doesn't necessarily need 'repairing.'
We don't know if they actually considered themselves broken up or not.

And there are relationships who end happily ever after.

Name, pl0x

I know. It's the other ones that screw it up for me. Real life has enough to angst about, and I don't wish to do so for fiction, so I frequently screen everything for things that would lead me to angst.
