I like the first season of the L word. It got really weird as it progressed unfortunately. The real L word is pretty funny though.

You know I remember seeing a bit of the Real L Word. I also remember noticing that in the second season the two most "normal" lesbians couples were among the ones removed from the show. That probably says something about how much was supposed to be about drama.

Now of course this doesn't mean that I won't put my disc in the shredder if they pull an Anders on Sera.

Question about unhappy lesbians.
Is the problem that the relationship is always unstable or just general never getting a happy ending? I mean, is it okay to have a perfectly functional romance, but unhappiness around that - like, heroic sacrifice?

I think it depand on peoples personal view on the question . But for me , I can deal with a lesbian couples breaking off and running away from each others . But you would kill me...if you give me another (willow&tara , Xena&gabrielle....Aimée&Jaguar or Rebel *and yes I'm pointing at Danielle Avatar lol) ....
It just scream kinda like that part of Shrek movie where the faery god mother tell shrek 'Ogre don't have a happy ending' .

As far as I'm concerned, it's both. I'm tired of constantly getting told that two women either can't be happy together or they can but their story will end in tragedy. I would like to see more positive and happy examples of f/f relationships, that actually end well. Enough with drama and tragedy.

I would say a combination of everything you said. Sometimes all in the same movie. I kid a little, but not much.

As a rule of thumb, in a relationship between two women as usually portayed by movies, tv series and the like, one of them either dies horribly, cheats on the other (often with a man), or outright "discovers" that she's not really into girls and settles down with a nice guy to have a "proper" family and all that.

That was my first lesbian movie and I've crushed on Piper ever since. The movie had real issues but I loved Piper's performance in it.

Anime does lesbians right most of the time though some still do the whole sad ending thing, though for example Strawberry Panic ends happy it was one of the first that actually had a happy ending for 2 separate lesbian couples

Anime has been getting it right these days, especially this year where just about every anime had a lesbian couple or subtext. Strawberry panic was quite the roller foster ride...felt bad for the blue haired girl but felt better seeing her still trying to flirt in the manga continuationAnime does lesbians right most of the time though some still do the whole sad ending thing, though for example Strawberry Panic ends happy it was one of the first that actually had a happy ending for 2 separate lesbian couples
Edit- can't forget about adventure time and maybe even avatar the legend of korra
