In a way , you could say that Merril really did listen to the Keeper teaching . I mean , merrill did what she though was right and was her risk to take out of love for her clans . And the Keeper merethari did what she did cose she loved merrill . Also one thing to notice here , is that Merrill get taunted not once but twice by 2 Pride Demons . Once if you take her in the fade to help fenyrel and the 2nd time is the demon in the mirror she is trying to fix . One can say , it was love + Duty (keeper) VS love+Pride (merril) .

Agreed.  Its better not to drag on this kind of topic in a character forum for pages.  This in particular is a subject that's easy to drag on.

 

Its interesting Sera's a tempest since it makes it seem like its more for just close-range like the description implies.  I always thought artificer seemed more archer oriented, but it may work fine close-range too.

I only use it when they are way too hyperactive . One is mine and the other belong to my roomate . And since it make them drowsy , I rather not make them addict (god know they already have a terrible addiction called Whiskas  ) .

If it wasn't for Marethari, the demon never would have been freed. Believing otherwise is to bizarrely trust an abomination's word. And Marethari was definitely possessed at the beginning of Act 3, and said nothing of it; it would have been impossible for her to have made it up the mountain's one path before Hawke did, much less perform any kind of ritual to remove Audacity. She was planning on killing Merrill and Hawke all along.

 

As for poisoning the clan against her, Marethari did that before Act 2.

 

She definitely was not possessed at the beginning of Act 3. If you talk to Marethari before going up the mountain then she leaves first and says she's going to buy Hawke time. Her getting up the mountain first because that's how they needed the scene to play out. Whenever you meet NPCs at a specific location it's usually them who are there first. It's not different from the having abominations sprout up from the ground.

 

If she were possessed she would not have just sat around dormant for such a long time. Nor would she have told Hawke to save Merrill from the mirror or the demon.

Why it didn't leave first is somewhat unclear, given that she was, again, very obviously possessed at the beginning due to not having nearly enough time to both make it up the mountain and extract the demon (especially if you don't tell Marethari that, as I don't). However, I suspect that the demon wanted to kill Merrill, possibly as an effort to sabotage the Eluvian project... or perhaps Marethari specifically wanted Merrill dead and that was the bargain she made with Audacity.

I definitely know that Marethari wasn't doing all this to protect Merrill, because the plot holes are way too numerous. If Marethari knew this about Eluvians, why didn't she ever say so earlier? Why did she wait to ambush Merrill and Hawke inside Pride's End, instead of jumping off the side of Sundermount (her body still has elven vulnerabilities in elven form, as Merrill can kill her with a stab to the gut)? Why didn't she leave a warning to the clan about her own possessed status, or to-be-possessed status in the hypothetical that she wasn't already possessed?
