But people will find a way to "game the system" even without having a visual cue of where your friendship with a character is. Sure, maybe at first it will be difficult to determine just how much approval you have with someone, and how certain choices will affect someone's approval, but in time the mechanic will be understood and those who want to be friends with everyone (or almost everyone) will exploit stuff like doing quests in a certain way or order, and so on. Not having a visual cue won't stop people from metagaming and "pandering" to the characters that need a boost in approval.

So true.......I foresee alot of Trolling possibility in the game

-Save damselle in X quest : Dorian play with his moustache = Reload!

-Take an Axe for reward in Y quest : gain +1000 Approval with IronBull =Reload!

-Save Poor Elf girl from Swamp : Sera gain  <3 Approval =RELAOD!!

...and so on... :P

Oh if you lot haven't seen already they released Cassie's spec, she's a Templar but

cassandra-templar.jpg

her Seeker training avoided that nasty route of lyrium addiction to function. HOORAY! :D

The approval bar being gone doesn't bother me, it makes the game for realistic in that in real life people don't have a bar on their body to tell you how much they like you, you have to find that out by how they act toward you.

Why? the founder or teacher of Templar..doesn't mean it started with them sniffing lyrium . Maybe the Lyrium came from the chantry or afterward once the Templar were etablished , or when they faced stronger mages and had to 'upgrade' their powers .

I think the Seekers are far more clever and shrewd because of this myself, the Templars learn the same skills but need the lyrium whereas the Seekers don't. Hmm another way to control them it seems.

I'm sure we'll be able to figure out how to boost approval with certain companions by agreeing with their views and stuff, but getting approval from everyone might be tricky because there are some very opposing views in there.

Oh, this game is going to be so political... Yes!

But oh man, those banters with Varric made me love her so much more! An emotionally constipated hot head with delusions of righteousness who is in serious need of a heaping helping of humble pie? Nnff!

I'm going to be on her like a kitten on a ball of yarn! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!

Well some gifts helped you understand certain characters better like Morrigan and the grimoire, Lels and her mother's favourite flower etc so I wouldn't want them completely removed, just the spamming of em to gain approval. Hopefully we can give our companions in DAI a gift now and again, or craft them one at least.

edit: NINJA'D like a baws!

I always thought it was dumb that DA:O had a free DLC for unlimited gifting, why speak to anyone when you can just give them cake

I'm not bothered by the lack of the approval bar at all, I'm just saying that it won't stop people from exploiting the system to gain as much approval as they can with some companions. I don't agree with the "it's not realistic to have the approval bar because IRL we don't have one": while true, the same could be applied to anything, like HP (we don't have a health bar that says how much "life" we have) or status effects (we don't have an icon on our heads that says if we're poisoned, bleeding or something else).

I'm sure we'll be able to figure out how to boost approval with certain companions by agreeing with their views and stuff, but getting approval from everyone might be tricky because there are some very opposing views in there.

Well, theoretically it was supposed to be the same in DA2, lots of opposing views (Anders/Fenris, Aveline/Isabela, etc), and yet I'm perfectly capable or friending or rivarling everyone if I wish to do so.

DA2 was rushed though. And they've had time to polish that mechanic by now, I would think. Anyway, it's going to be fun!

Cassandra might be lucky that Iron Bull is even more annoying-seeming and Blackwall seems wholly dull... though I'm less pleased about the fact that I have to bring one of these warriors around with me.

by the way, the spoiler I posted was about the vid in this thread. didn't want to ruin it for anyone. and speaking of said vid, the home that was explored...it takes little to impress me it seems. I just thought that was so cool. and the handy dandy "find dat" is dope.

gifts were good when they meant something. we did have mad gifts in da:o though...well the ultimate edition anyway. I prefer really getting to know my crew so I'm unbothered by the change in how the approval system works or is gone or whatev.

You probably don't have to bring one.  Things might get a bit tough if you play on harder difficulties.

No you don't. You could do a four-mage party if you wanted. Or all rogue. Experiment!
