I fully expect Sera to be optional and it wouldn't really bother me if she was; it's the connotations I'm worried about.
Well my fav companion of DAO Lels was optional too, could have ignored her and left her to the Blight. Dat accent hooked me tho. 
I think the only required companions will be Cassandra, Varric, Solas, and possibly Vivienne. Basically half of them will be required and the other half optional, similar to ME2.

I'm always surprised when people say they missed her. How do you not go into the tavern in the first town? It's like, mandatory in an RPG.

Yeah srsly, like I'm obsessive about exploring every area as much as I can, I see a door damn right I'm gonna want to see what's on the other side.
The only time , I missed my Li . Was in Mass Effect 2 . Well the 1st time I romanced Liara . Once I got to ME2....and by the time we get to go on Ilium ......God . I kept looking for Liaraaaa everywhere
I loved Leliana....but her not being a Li in DA2 or DAI is fine . I took Bela...and seriously.....Leliana..was far away from my mind .

Nah . All my toons are faithful . Heck , I dont even do the whole romance 2 peoples to see them argue over you . I hate that . It only happen to me once..with kaidan (stupid radar)..and Liara . I only wanted Liara..but dudebro got wrong signal and end up giving me the Talk .
So yeah , my toons have their Li and stick with them to hell and back !

Everything looked derelict in Lothering. I guess I still have some of my old adventure games reflexes: take everything that isn't nailed down. If it's nailed down, get a crowbar. Open every door, search every nook and cranny. I'm so OCD in games, it's not even funny.

Leliana was kinda messed up in DA:O in general. Not only was it easy to skip her altogether, but there was a dialogue thingy in one of her very first conversations which, if missed, could lock you out of her romance permanently for that playthrough.
It was too frustrating.

Not to mention the ninja mance. I never got it from her, but Alistair ninja'd me at some point. In the Alienage with my city elf. That was awkward because I was romancing Leliana and suddenly he jumps into the conversation. Then the next day at camp...

You forgot: pickpocket everyone and click on every single npc in the map because they might have useful info and/or a quest. Also, don't leave the area you're currently in until you've checked at least 3 times if you didn't miss anything.

The only thing that I found frustrating and messed up with Leliana ...well make that 2 things . ONE: Her damn hardening is buggy!!! She become <holy Maker< way more after I do it . So me think it is bugged.......in my game at least . It drove me maaaaaaaad . Actually...I may just have to stop hardening her..it just occured to me , its there if I wanted to defile the Ash which I never do . DUH!

That too. I get the feeling the game will go like this for me:
1. Gather party and explore area. Get all the loot, plants, shiny stuff.
2. Go back to base and go to the crafting area. Use all materials possible.
3. Go to war table to get mission. Swoon listening to Josephine and Leliana.
4. Go talk to all companions and advisers to try to make friends.
Repeat ad nauseam. And that's just for when I actually play instead of just messing around decorating Skyhold.

I've heard about this hardening bug with Leli but I personally never had it as I never tried hardening her. The only companion I hardened was Alistair.

I don<t know about that . Skyrim..was..so is Mount&Blade . I though the game ended at some point no ^...argh..(^^^ tis is my keyboard screwing..ignore it)
