UnderstoodMy point was that it should be disagreement leading to narrative content rather than mechanical punishment. But this kind of thinking is why I hate the approval system.

But unless BioWare is keeping some romance surprises up their sleeve class-gateing isn't a thing, so it all works out regardless.
I like characters disapproving of the player character, it's reactivity and it isn't ego-stroking.
It might make it harder to romance her, which is a good thing

I think it's interesting that they chose to go back to the approval system after trying DA2's F/R system. Frankly, I like neither. But if I had to choose, it's probably the approval system that edges out a bit.

If you hate both necromancers and people who play them, perhaps.

Really? Damn. I liked friendship/rivalry. Gave unique content either way. Approval never seemed as dynamic.

I just wonder how we'll be able to keep track of it in game, seeing as they are removing the approval bar. It will feel more realistic sure but still so used to the old system and all that.

This, in my opinion, is the kind of thing that should be toggled.

If companions say nice things to you, approval is high, if not approval is low. The point of the system is to generate dialogue content, showing the bar itself should be redundant.

I'm sure we'll adapt. They said the way chatacters talked to us would reflect whether they like or dislike us.

-Yes? (neutral)
-What? (mild dislike)
-Oh, it's you. (strong dislike)
-Oh, hi there. (mild like)
-Hey, good to see you. (strong like)
Or something like that. Words and tone can do wonders to tell us where we stand.

I mostly wonder how we'll know approval is maxed and companions have no more conversations to unlock.

Well...
I hope it's still improved upon DAO.
What I didn't like there is that if you pissed someone off, then virtually all content was cut off. I liked that Rivalry could be tense and biting and you could still have conversations. If you pissed off Morrigan or Alistair, for example, then it went nowhere. That was the end of it.

They did say that most content won't be locked by approval, but instead will slight change based on your Approval level.
Which is great.
I'm pretty sure you couldn't get Leliana's quest to trigger if her approval was too high prior to a certain point in DA:O (which in turn affected her romance).

That's similar to Friendship/Rivalry then. That's all I ask. Not necessarily the F/R system itself.. I just like this dynamic of (un)friendly conversation continuing.

Heh, I like the idea that that exchange is the epitome of camaraderie. The point were everything is known, everything is forgiven, and nothing else needs to be said.

I hate to Mass Effect 1 dialogue to be honest. It's very primitive.

Yeah, it actually seems like something BioWare does often. It was especially prominent in the ME games. You could tell when a character had nothing more to say, while getting a flavor of their tone towards you (positive or negative).

"What the 'eck do you want now?" (Strong dislike)
*Sigh* "Yeah?" (Dislike)
"Oh, alright." (Neutral)
"Now then, pet." (Like)
"Ey-up, me duck!" (Strong like)

Don't know if it was a bug, but yes, you couldn't trigger her personal quest with a high approval before a certain point.Which is great.

Correction. I thought Ash and Liara worked OK in ME1.
Everyone else was just basically spooling through one line of conversation. Most of the responses you selected did nothing different than the other.

I approve of this, just because I want to hear Sera say "Ey-up, me duck."
