The person in this pic doesn't scream Empress to me. Some random Orlesian, yes.

I remember that description. I don't really expect the in-game appearance to match that, though it should.

Descriptions of people/locations in the ME novels were pretty hit-and-miss compared to in-game.

I do love the haircut though.  My third toon is going to be a lesbian elf mage (going for Sera at that point) and I would love that hair style for her.  If I can do something like purple or fire-truck red for the color, even better. ;)

I can see some of the other details being changed, but not the feathers and the face paint.

I think I'll try to stick around this thread a bit longer even after the game ships, but if I see in my feed names of posters who I don't know I'll try to stay away as there might be an increased chance that those are people posting here just to spoil story stuff for everyone. From my part, you ladies and gents have my word that I won't post spoilers at all. Maybe the occasional Inquisitrix screenshot from the CC, but beyond that I'll be silent about anything spoilery.

Edit: yes, I'm still catching up, you folks write a lot.

I have been avoiding spoilers like crazy, which is why I haven't been in any of the Story and Lore forums very much over the last couple of months.  I assure you, you're safe from spoilers from me.   ;)

Even book spoilers, except for things like the mask description.  I'll keep any thing from the EU in spoiler tags if I come around.  :)

I'm going to be completely MIA for about 2 weeks after launch, which will give me a chance to play through the game once and absorb the codex.  I'll come back after that.  In the meantime, I'll probably go back to hanging around the ME forums, since I've met some cool people there that enjoy the games.

My likes are back, yay! :D

Yep, I pretty much only follow this thread and a couple others and I'll drop even those once the game ships, in order to minimize the chance of getting spoiled (it's easier to remember the regular posters of just one thread as opposed to 2/3 at once).

I just realized the book cover has her mask. It's not the type of the design that they would overlook so easily. Or at least, I'd find that pretty lame if they did.

If I could know one thing though, it'd be how I could recruit Sera as early as possible without 1) missing out on something or 2) screwing something up.

Yeah, it would be silly if they completely changed her mask to the one shown in the screenshot.  I have a feeling we're dancing with a bard, a...work-related friend of Leliana's.

That's not spoilers, that's improvers.  ;)

Yeah, my first thing to do is recruit Sera first and foremost. :D I'm literally dying to have her in my party.

Though i guess we'll have to do some missions until it brings us to the place Sera is.

Plus, anyone else notice a pattern in the DA games thus far?

Zevran--Can't be missed, but can be killed at a couple of different points in the game.

Leliana--She can be missed if you don't hit the Inn.  You can also kill her depending upon your decisions with the Urn

Nathaniel--You can have him executed.

Sigrun--One of the two blissful exceptions to this rule.

Isabela--Like with Leliana, if you don't hit up the Hanged Man at the right time.

Sebastian--A DLC character, so that qualifies

Varric--The other exception to this rule.

Funny how both of the exceptions are dwarves so far.  In any case, most of the rogues in the series can be killed off or skipped.  I don't want to possibly forget to hit up some side area early in the game and miss Sera altogether.  That's a DA tradition that needs to change.  I know that Varric is not skippable (that's confirmed,) but I worry about our poor elven archer.  I know she can't be killed, as none of the companions can be this time around.

Also of note that all the bisexual rogues can be killed or skipped. That needs to change too.

I think I'll do something I usually don't do on a first playthrough: look up in the guide the fastest, safest way to recruit Sera without missing much in the previous areas in terms of timed quest/sidequests and the like, then go back to properly explore the places I've rushed through with Sera in tow.

your making assumptions about a characters plot that hasn't even been revealed yet

Actually, I'm referring to a line that was spoken in one of the videos, albeit one that the devs talked over.

Honestly? I don't think Josie/Sera would be a good pairing they seem so opposite to such a degree and not in the opposites attract sort of way, and Dorian and Iron Bull seem quite similiar. Josie and Vivienne though? I can't imagine a het pairing that makes as much sense as they do XD Vivienne the political savvy court mage and Josie the Diplomat would be amazing together. Talk about a power couple.

Jo and Sera are very very different agreed and it's not a ship I have much faith in staying afloat myself buuuuuuuuuuut if for some reason something was to happen between em in game if your PC wasn't involved with either it wouldn't irk me. Although I'm pretty doubtful that anything will happen at all.

The whole Cullen x Jo thing has gotten some people tense in the gay community, seeing her shipped with a man although she is bi has annoyed alot. This is a slippery slope and one that many bi folk have to deal with alot I reckon, proving your queerness. Eh I'm sorta thankful I have my line in the sand, don't have to deal with said issues like that in life. Anyway I agree with you guys here, I would love to see more s/s pairings between NPCs in this universe, positive ones ideally.

I think as long as you pay attention to dialogue and quest logs, you'll run into her. And explore main areas often. Kind of like Leliana. You had to be neglectful to miss her.

I'm actually worried about the same thing.

Right now signs point to Sera being a latecomer to the party, so I would imagine her recruitment is a random encounter that happens after a certain point later in the game. The question is whether said encounter is missable at all, since I'm pretty sure she isn't a required companion.

It really is easy to miss out on companions in these games sometimes. One of several reasons I decided to buy the guide along with the game.

I've never skipped anyone (although with that whiny git Sebastian I wish I had...). I think now we know the available companions in advance it'll be pretty hard to do it accidentally this time. I wonder if we'll be able to skip anyone at all...

If you do decide to go that route, and if you find it, do feel free to share (through clearly marked spoiler tag or pm of course :P).

To be fair, if you're not an OCD rpg player, the tavern can be missed as it resembles a random house and you have to really get near there to see that you can interact with the door. Not everyone notice that on the very first playthrough where there is so much to learn, watch, remember, do.

I really hope it won't be long to recruit her.

Oh and when you get the guide, do share where and when we can find Sera. :D In spoiler though, or via PM.

Edit: lmao Ammonite, great minds think alike. :P

My only saving grace was that I'm almost compulsive about checking out a new area, so I've never missed a companion.  Thank you Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate for that.  I was surprised when I became active on the forums last November that so many people missed Sten, Leliana and Isabela.

Oh and the killing/betraying/missing of non-hetero rogues really needs to stop.  I don't use this word often, but it's rather problematic.
