Female Mage Hawke FTW (default to) I always have Carver die in the deep roads cause I want my Hawke to have a tragic family life thats why she is so sarcastic she hides her grief with her humor
I do the same thing, except Hawke is Diplo/Helpful instead of Sarcastic. She also rivalmances Izzy.
So there's this nice, friendly, helpful apostate girl who self-justifies her life away from the Circle by being as selfless as she can. But by the end of Act II, this hero act has accomplished a grand total of getting the entire rest of her family killed and driving away the woman she loves because she's trying to get her to change for the better. And even some of her other friends start to let her down: Anders loses control and tries to kill a girl, and she forces him to leave the city; Aveline runs a city guard that is so corrupt that she doesn't even discipline the officer who raped an elf girl.
Kirkwall has, if anything, grown even worse despite Hawke's efforts, not better. (Think of, say, the relationship between Batman and Gotham City in The Long Halloween.) The depression starts to creep in, and by the time of "Demands of the Qun", she's gone all the way down. When the arishok attacks Kirkwall, she fights his Qunari less because she wants to protect the city and more because she is looking for an honorable death.
That was the first Hawke I played - and I played her 'blind', without knowing how things would turn out - so it left a bit of an impression on me. Carver's death was an accident, and I didn't know how he could be saved until later. Leandra's death, I thought, was a personal failure on my part. Hawke was depressed and going through the motions in "Demands of the Qun" because I was.
So when Isabela came back with the Tome, and the arishok offered to duel me for her life, it was one of the top five best feelings I've ever had about a game. It helped validate so much of what I'd already done in the game, it meant that the hero stuff wasn't all just hot air and that Isabela really could change and did care, and it let me play the parfit gentil knyght saving a damsel in distress. Tears were shed.
It would've felt a lot better if the arishok fight wasn't such a chore, but fortunately I wasn't playing on Nightmare so I managed to one-shot him after copious amounts of kiting and grenades and potions.

I've given up on keeping up with this thread. XD and I mean that in the best possible way. This is my favorite thread, even if I am a bit too distractable to keep up with it. ;3
I wanna see how Sera and Varric get along. I hope they are friends. They seem likely, but who knows how he's changed...maybe he's a bit more wary now.
I guess one can always scroll through the pages quickly and stop only for the pictures....

For my first playthrough I want it to be mostly team elf, Sera and Solas with my elf mage. I'll alternate the last spot with the other companions regularly, I want to get to know them all.
