As someone who has dated bi/pan/gay/ women:  I can tell you, that  a lot of Yuri is not even close to being catered for women. Most of it is made for males:                            series like steel angel kurami wouldn't sell, half as well, if they didn't. Let's stop pretending that yuri is just about 'girls love', okay? If you like Yuri fine, whatever, but don't try and say it's something, that it is not.

Besides, yuri anime are extremely rare, the genre lives on the dead tree format, and proper yuri are mostly drawn by women magakas, and even lesbians mangakas.

Some of the yuri manga, especially those written and drawn by women, can be good stories and give interesting insights into lesbian life in Japan, and there's some good anime too, but the majority, much like the majority of fanfiction, is overfluffed crap. You have to know how and where to look.

Well, it's classified as one for whatever reason, as is strawberry panic.

 

Never seen it mentioned as yuri. Besides, searching for yuri anime is hopeless; you'll end up with either narm shows from the late 90's/early 00's (Kannazuki no miko, Strawberry panic), unfinished manga adaptations (Sasamekikoto, Aoi hana) or most likely fifty metric tons of subtext moeblob shows that doesn't have the guts to assume their gayness.

 

Yuri in anime is just a waste of time, good yuris only live in paper.

I used to always stick to gender appropriate avatars then one day I just stopped caring. Not sure if anyone's actually mistaken me for a woman though.

 

 

In some cases though everyone assumes you're a dude until proven otherwise. I've been mistaken as a dude so many times, I lost count.
