Never felt offended by anyone's presence in here. Side eyed some things and I addressed them directly but this thread is my comfort zone. it's where "Kasumi" was born lol. And if someone rubs me wrong, I don't address them unless they address me directly and then I let them know. I'm real like that.

I just googled 'cat avatar gif'. It's one of the first ones to pop up. Isn't it cute? It's supposed to be animated though. Shame.

We were told Blackwall was a dog person. Maybe she doesn't like animals (we already know she doesn't like nature).

It's Jorg from Mark Lawrence's Broken Empire trilogy.

 

 

The protagonist is not a nice person. He's ruthless and kills whoever annoys him, and the story is told by him from his point of view. I found it compelling and even ended up rooting for him, but some really didn't like it as the he's is so dark. I've read some criticism of the female characters in the books, and while that's kind of true for the first book, they get stronger, more rounded and more formidable as the series develops. 

 

I really liked the setting of the series. You start off thinking it's a medieval fantasy universe like in Game of Thrones, but it becomes clear quite early that it's actually a future Earth after some horrible nuclear Armageddon, and as the series goes on, you get more and more sci-fi elements creeping in.

 

I'd recommend it, but only if you don't mind stuff that's dark.

 

Sorry to butt in but I am really curious did you read The Book of the New Sun? Would you say it is on the same lvl? I am actually on the fence with Mark Lawrence trilogy because of critiques about female characters but I can take it, if the writing is really good.

Sorry I've never read that. Honestly I think that the criticism is massively over-inflated, and mostly relates to the first book. There's a couple of a times where rape is referenced as one of the things that Jorg's murderous band of thugs do in amongst all the horrible killing they get up to, but it's never described in any detail at all. Also as I said the female characters become stronger and more well-rounded as the series continues. 

 

Basically Jorg is a psychopath who sees others as tools to his own ends, but his character does change a little as the story progresses, and you also gradually find out the events in his life that helped to make him way he is. It's left to you to decide how much of his character is down to his genes, and how much down to his experiences. 

 

I do think that Lawrence's writing style is wonderful, at least to my tastes. He has a marvellous turn of phrase at times.

And that description is pretty much how I imagine it. We don't really know a whole lot about her, yet I'm in love... Strange.

I was personally hoping to meet Luke at PAX a few months ago, but I wasn't really expecting it.

 

I did get to see and chat with Karen and Sheryl, though.
