Every time I see her avatar I am reminded of how I dream of getting rid of Jacob so she doesn't have anyone to fancy and promoting her to full romanceable companion...

So that one time I played as a bro shep I made a custom.

I started playing before that awful image came out, so I was already used to Sheploo. And I always felt that Sheploo's face - as silly as it could be - was just so much better than most possible broshep faces in the character creator that I gave up trying to make a custom broshep and just stuck with Sheploo. (Also, a silly confession on my part: most male faces in the CC looked, um, samey to me. Sheploo was the only one that looked different.) I made four: one for Ash, one for Miri, one for Tali, and one for Jack.

Never used preset femshep though, in any of the games. First two games, it was easy to make a better CC face. Third game, the new "iconic" look was just so far away from any femshep that I'd ever roleplayed that I couldn't get myself to use her. That combination of eyes and eyebrows looked terrifying.

Faces are harder in Dragon Age games, because there aren't any face codes - so it's much harder to iterate on an existing design. It took me years (namely, until about a month and a half ago) until I finally found an elf face in Origins that I didn't hate, and that was because I actually went into the toolset to make it instead of trying and failing with the CC again. DA2's Black Emporium made it easier to tweak Hawke, so I eventually found a face I didn't hate after significant amounts of trial and error. In neither case, though, did I ever really consider going with presets. Origins presets were just CC products, and DA2's femhawke preset looked "just a little bit off" with her fat cheeks and ghost eyes.

As that comment on "iteration" shows, I really prefer to adjust an existing base for a character's face. Apart from involving less work, it's just very difficult for me, conceptually speaking, to envision a face as it's being created from the ground up. This is doubly true when character creation is a matter of sliders rather than a more intuitive (to me, anyway) click-and-drag interface like DA:I appears to have.

I also create something of a double bind for myself because, in a BioWare game, I really care quite strongly about the sort of face my character is going to have, because we spend so much time looking at it. And I have such stringently high standards for appearance that I find it difficult to play a game where I can't manage to make a good face. (Reason #8492 why I quit Skyrim.) But I also have a stupid personal distaste for appearance mods, and I'm bizarrely proud of eventually creating acceptable faces for femshep, the Hero, and the Champion without needing assistance.

This is all a very long-winded way of saying that I'm glad for Inquisition's character creator upgrades, and I'm also glad that many of the presets (if they are nonrandomized presets, which I think they are) look like good bases for creating good faces. Both of those things will make my life much easier when the game FINALLY comes out. Because, frankly, it's not much fun to make two video game ladies snog if only one of them looks any good.

I havent though about names for anyone else but my Qunari . All I know for my elf..is that...I plan on going nutjob..and make her a dark elf !
