I am not saying not to do it.

I am saying that its just not a great idea, from all the years I have been on the forum.

 

Threads like this are dominated by fans.

Fans are touchy over things.

 

It never ever leads anywhere good and just creates issues.

Post it if you got it, but just be prepared for the blow back.

 

I'm not going to withhold my opinion because someone is too sensitive to handle criticism of a video game character online.

 

Again, I'm not hating on Sera, or insulting her, or insulting her fans. I'm saying I have a dislike of her, and I personally am worried about how her character will turn out. This isn't a fan thread, it's a character thread. There's been criticism of her since she was announced, and I've seen several times in this thread where fans have taken criticism of her way too personally.

 

If this was a specifically-named "Sera Appreciation Thread", or if I came in here saying "Sera's gay as **** and a ****** dumb character lol", then yeah, you're right, that's dumb. But I stated my opinion neutrally in a neutral thread, and you seem to think fans will take personal offense to that, and also seem to think I'd care if they did.

Dude I think you're taking it a little personally, people saying "I don't really get where you're getting this mary sue stuff, I don't see it and it seems like kind of a leap" Isn't an attack on you. It's just someone having a different opinion than you on something.

 

Anyway, I'm hoping Sera isn't statted mainly for bows when you recruit her. I tend to prefer the dagger rogues in combat than the archers.

I hope we can switch companion weapons. It would be nice to just use a reset potion and have your favorite companions fit your play style.

I haven't seen anyone take issue with whether you like Sera or not. I've seen people take issue with your odd definition of "Mary Sue," though.

You know, it's funny: back when there were no bow strings (dao &da2) people made whole threads and long arguments on the subject and how the game was gonna suck for not having them compared to other games. Now that we have them, no one seems to mention or notice them.

Just wait, the next thing people will be griping about is how unrealistic it is to have unlimited arrows.

I'm going to seriously abuse the bow strings. Sera will be nothing but an archer for the entire playthrough.

Yup, for realism and all. And I expect people's enjoyment of the game, due to bow strings, to be proportional to the time spent on discussing them :P.

As an aside: Sera mentions a "we" in that quote. I know it could mean quizzy and co, but it sounds more like a reference to the network of rogues her survey description mentioned?

Perhaps she's just very opinionated about how they in the inquisition deal with certain people. But I like the idea of her running a little gang of rogues. *sigh* ...rogues <3

Actually, if I recall, there was some rejoicing over bow strings appearing, but that quickly faded.

Pending further revelations about her character I'm strongly considering swapping her bow out for daggers, if only because I'm still think a bow is a stupid weapon for a thief.

Nothing like shooting baddies in the face and stealing their stuff.

I agree,In my thief/assassins  playhtoughs I tend to prefer archery as well...Sneaking and ranged weapons are less likely to get you caught.

It seems her thievery and criminal ways are totally ignored by the heroes because she's meant to be their "light in the darkness". That's incredibly Mary Sue-ish.

 

Explain this to me.  Is it "ish" or is it a full blown Mary Sue from your perspective, can't be both.

Way I look at it, were I a thief, I'd want something easily concealable, something that didn't take up a lot of space on my person. Something that was practical in close quarters.

I'll specialize her in both as far as It's possible, while making Varric a pure archer and 'Cole' a pure dual-wielder.
