One day I sat down and decided to replay the entire mass effect series again and after a few minutes into the first game in many deeply appreciate all of the vast improvements made by the time the third.

and that got me thinking "Should the mass effect trilogy be rebooted for next-generation console?'

what this would mean would be, improved graphics, improve gameplay, more in-depth relationships, maybe even a few edits to  the story to make it smoother.

some of you may even find is the opportunity to say " we finally get a femshep tali relationship!"  and such.

now I'm not saying immediately, but maybe eventually?

What are your thoughts?

I think it's far too soon for a reboot, especially since the new game is coming and exists in the same canon as the trilogy.

A re-release with ALL DLC for PS4 and XB1 though I would LOVE, and I think it would be great to revisit the games all with a couple years off playing and a little bit of Bioware/next gen polish.

Rebooting the trilogy would effectively mean BW would have two canons based on the same original story running parallel to each other. Imagine if Spider Man and The Amazing Spider Man movies were released at the same time by Fox..or even running/releasing in theatres concurrently. It's confusing and unneccessary. Or a Tomb Raider Underworld II this year after Tomb Raider reboot last year. Odd, expensive, confusing, and unnecessary.

Now if the next ME runs its course, has sequels and ends, whatever, then Bioware can feel good about a reboot and start again from square 1, or continue. Think 10 years from now, minimum. But the next ME is based on the foundation already laid - no need to reboot

The first ME game isn't even 10 years old so it's too early to reboot the trilogy, a re-release of the current trilogy with all the DLC (including promotional items) added is most likely though.

There's already been talk of an HD release of the trilogy on next gen consoles. I hope it happens. But a reboot is unnecessary

Bioware is already considering it so I don't see why not.

Edit: Read the op wrong. A reboot definitely won't happen, but I would buy the port they're considering doing to current-gen consoles.

To be clear, they said they are considering a re-release, not a reboot, for PS4 and Xbox One :)

Also (and even I'm guilty of this) the trilogy is already in HD. But yes yes it would of course end up looking better.

I agree a re-boot would be a terrible idea. Too soon. also does ME1 have HD textures? Only asking because I don't know. Last time I played the first was like 5-6 years ago. Either way it would probably end up being called a Remastered Edition rather than an HD edition.

If it's a direct port I don't see the point though. Never even saw the point of the trilogy set.

Yes. Because the endings are kinda jacked.

Throw in some better outfits for squadmates and an actual good ending....sure.  I'll go along with it.

I don't think a reboot is needed, but it wouldn't stop me from a purchase.

For me, I would just like to see a "remaster" with better textures and retooled ME1 combat system.  Keep the story and ending as is.

Endings aren't going to change, Bioware made it very clear since the EC.

I would just like to play a remastered version with better textures in the 1st (and perhaps 3rd) game.

Sure a fixed combat, inventory system in ME1 and ending tooling in ME3 would be great but I think that's all way beyond the scope of resources Bioware/EA would want o put in a next-gen re-release of ME1-3

I hope it happens, in any capacity

I'm assuming most BioWare resources are dedicated to Dragon Age Inquisition, the next Mass Effect and a new IP. That said, I doubt they have the time or the resources to do any kind of modification to what's already been released (more content, etc). The one thing that could happen is a re-release for next gen consoles I'd say.

A re-release on PS4/X1 will mostly likely just be an improvement on the graphics and patches of glitches along with having all the DLC, so don't expect changes in gameplay, also Bioware will do no more work regarding the endings (ever since the release of the EC).

I would like to point out that I said "eventually"  not "immediately"

story wise they don't have to alter much, but in terms of gameplay and graphics I see the potential for massive improvement

plus word anybody object if they decided to add a little extra content?

Honestly I'd rather them do a new story in the existing universe than rehashing an old story. Think Star Wars. The originals established what became an empire (lower-case). They built on that, and do to this day. Plus, reboots happen when the franchise loses steam/confidence, or the original creative team has closed the possibilities on it (a la Nolan/Bale Batman). ME3 was super successful despite what the vocal internet fans say, it's not Tomb Raider Underworld or Superman Returns/Spiderman 3.

Maybe if the next trilogy is poor or the games start becoming diluted and irrelevant/poor selling

How far down the road are we talking for a reboot? Saying "eventually" is pretty broad. Either way I am going to say no. There is a lot more potential for the MEU to expand and new games in the universe with new stories/characters should come first and foremost. Thus far we haven't been able to count on the ancillary media to expand the universe as they tend to focus exclusively on events and characters directly tied to the events of the game. In my mind, there is no need to reboot a great franchise simply for the sake of better graphics and new endings when there is so much left that can be done. The thought never crossed my mind until someone mentioned it.

Depends on how different the trilogy would be. If it's only a cosmetic update, then no. Don't think I'll sink another 60 hours into the series just to see Shepard get destroyed again.

Well aware of that.  But if we're playing the "what if we get better story editing and better relationships?" game, just thought I'd toss that into the mix

Which basically means that no, I would not be interested in an upgraded version of the ME trilogy.  It would just be throwing good money after bad.

The whole point of the port is so people can play trilogy on the X1/PS4 if they want to, people who already own it don't want to buy it again then they don't have to.

We wouldn't have to but we would be out an original game in the franchise because they decided to rehash the first three titles. This is of course unless a separate team develops the reboot.

I don't see a reboot happening anytime soon its way too early to even think about rebooting the series.
