Any future installments of the Mass Effect series should include a space combat simulator similar to Wing Commander / Free Space. I think that it is a game mechanic that would fit and enhance the game playing experience of mass effect.

Only if it fits in with the role of whatever the player character is. Or there's a non-RPG game set in the ME universe. it's been a long time since I've played a really good space combat game, TIE Fighter was probably the last one although since I don't exactly keep abreast of the latest game there may have been dozens of good ones since then for all I know.

I see space combat in Mass games like this:
-Either don't do it
-Or do it as a REALLY good minigame. Hopefully with a progression to it, and significant integration into the setting, story.
-It doesn't need to be the focus of the game. It doesn't need to be full space exploration. I has to feel like more than a SMALL minigame though (and much more than a turret section)
I don't want to feel like I'm just mowing down a few more random mooks with no story behind it.
If it has a higher skill requirement (twitch based) to do, then it should be optional. Can still be helpful towards progression though (more Credits? exp? I dunno).
