I could see him being a companion. There's supposed to be 9 of them and other companions we know seem to be just regular people. Bioware usually likes to add at least 1 companion that is something different: like Justice, Legion, Shale, possessed Anders, Fenris with magical tatoos... and Dog :P

I can see Cole as a character filling that spot.

I'd compare it more to the trend of companions with some connection to Sprits/Demons/the Fade (Wynne, Justice and Anders).

Mae?!?

I think that the thread just got way more interesting.

It is my great regret to say that Mae will not be in the game, as is (now doubly) confirmed by David Gaider. Let's all take a moment to appreciate that wondrous bamf none-the-less.

Can we please get back on topic?  There are, in fact, people here who still want to discuss Cole, the character.  Discussion has, up to this point, been polite, civil, and has also pertained to Cole.

And having said that!

Whether or not Cole is actually present in DA:I, there are interesting possibilities regarding what the Inquisitor might hear about him, considering he's no longer necessarily confining himself to the Tower.  And, well, when you're invisible, you can do all kinds of things no one else can.  Food for thought, there.

Yes, let's.

I'd personally wonder, if he is in the game, where would we encounter him? He may very well stay in the White Spire, but perhaps he went looking for Rhys and could be found at Andoral's Reach or something?  An interesting thought, anyways.

Not my fault that something more interesting came up then that half dimensional waif who deluded himself into person hood.

Also you're late, discussion already shifted and moved on.

^_^ You can resume you're talk of the demon.

Sticks and stones can break someone's bones but Cole still shanked Lambert~

Well, he may have, anyways. We'll see.

Hmm...when applying Dragon Age issues to real-world philosophies throughout history, I don't ask this to derail but to clarify, which section would be the best place to start such a thread? Scuttlebutt?

Yes, I'd go with Scuttlebutt.

In this thread, however, it was used pertaining to Cole, so it was fine here, I believe.

I know she can't make it in, but you really nailed her personality.  ;)  She's here in spirit..so to speak.

No finer a compliment have I received today. It must be because we're both influenced by Mae West.

Heh heh heh, here in spirit. I see what you did there. Good on you.

"When choosin' between two evils, I like to pick the one I never tried before."

You should use that quote of Mae West's for your signature.  :D

Okay, I started a "Philosophies in Dragon Age" thread in Scuttlebutt so we can leave this conversation there.

I started with Immanuel Kant and the Categorical Imperative and the basics of his maxim and see if we can discuss that effectively there. Hopefully this thread won't get closed.

Anyway, since I haven't read every single page of this thread, what is your opinion of Cole?

Warder:  May I politely suggest, if you have nothing on-topic to add, and do not find discussion about the character to whom this thread is devoted interesting, that you engage in a discussion elsewhere on a topic about which you are actually interested, instead of derailing the topic, repeatedly bashing a character, and adding nothing relevant to the topic of the conversation other than how much you hate Cole as a character?  Your insistence on following this thread and posting in it would suggest that you either actually are interested in the topic character despite your claims, or that you're here to attempt to cause trouble.  Personally I've got you on ignore, but people insist on quoting you right and left.

As for Cole wandering around... I don't know that he'd look for Rhys again.  I think maybe he feels detached from his behaviors before, since he's willing to kill again.  Then again, he could still think of Rhys as a friend/ally... if he's not afraid that Rhys will hate him because of what he is now known to be.  He might be curious enough to explore, or he might still be afraid of how many people there are outside of the White Spire.

He could also have fled the White Spire, no longer feeling safe there, and, given how frightened Cole was to be out in the open before, he might now be wandering around lost and scared and lonely.  And now he has less reason to listen to Rhys's advice on not killing people, so that could turn out very badly indeed, if it's the case.

 Honestly this must be a Westerner thing, Just because you don't like a character doesn't automatically equate it with boring. -_-  Anyway, Buckles.

Just because an opinion is focused in a negative spectrum doesn't mean you don't find it non interesting, i just don't put much stock into the positivity folks equate with Cole, i don't buy into him being a companion. Just because our perspectives are different, just because when i do bother to give this thread my opinion it isn't shining a rainbow out of his back door doesn't mean i don't like talking about him.

In fact I'd argue given his fate at the end of Asunder being left open as it was, I'd say i find what the Dev team ultimately does him would be intimately within my sphere of interest.

So yes i am following the thread more or less, and not merely to "derail"  and given that erm, the occasion it did derail, it was caused by an old forum chum bringing up an older debate, I'd say you don't even have that to hang on my head. Be a cole fanboy if you want, just don't ask me to leave because i am not. Differences of perspective and all.

Cole is technically anything but sad, since, you know, he's actually demon.

Right, I'm kind of done with people actively trying to derail the thread.  Requesting a shutdown.

Supposedly. He's a Fade entity of unknown origin and attributes.

:P

Anyway, since I haven't read every single page of this thread, what is your opinion of Cole?

Haha, of course. You'll forgive me for just quoting myself in an earlier post.

I adore Cole - he quickly became one of my favorite characters in the DA universe after reading Asunder.   Mind you I'm not going to delve into whether he is 'good' or anything about his killings in this post.  I simply find him, in concept and in general, a fascinating character.

If we're to speak of his actual being in terms of being a denizen of the Fade, I believe that he (Cole) was the mage who died in the Pits of the White Spire and as he was dying a Spirit of Hope came to him.   Somehow the spirit came to possess the dead body of Cole, and subsequently forgot its history in the Fade (as many Spirits and Demons are apparently disoriented when breaching through the Veil.)

During the possession I believe the Spirit of Hope was corrupted into a Despair Demon.

And I do really hope (and feel with at least some certainty) that Cole is the hinted at Asunder character who will appear in Inquisition, and join the Inquisitor as one of their companions (probably the party's dual wielding rogue).

But are Cole's reasons for killing (or attempting to) Lambert the same as why he was ending the lives of the hopeless mage's he'd murdered previously?

How Cole feels now that he's come into his powers more - and may no longer need nor want to hide himself the way he has before - is something I'd really like to see explored.

I agree. At least, I think he was a spirit of Mercy, prior to meeting the original Cole. Whatever he is now is anyone's guess.
