Will DAI be hit with the downgrade flu that's been affecting other games recently?

For example, Dark Souls 2 had a fancy new dynamic lighting system that was shown off in the trailers and even the beta. But when the game was released, the lighting system had been stripped out and now there are concerns that the PC version will suffer the same fate.

Same goes for Watch Dogs. The 2012 E3 demo was pretty awesome looking, but the PS4 trailer that was released recently...wasn't.

So will DAI be visually downgraded as well? From what we have seen so far, it's looking pretty good (although the polycount on some models seem to be a bit low) but we all know trailers lie. Just look at the Far Cry 3 trailer and demo and compare it with the released PC version for another example.

I just hope the difference in quality between the E3 version and the final game (PC) that I will be playing won't be too much.

I don't think PC gamers will have to worry about that as long as their rigs can handle the specs. The console versions usually have downgrades no matter what the game or system.

I am actually considering getting a second video card on the off chance that I might need it to run the game on the highest settings without lag.

I am actually a little scared what the 360 and the PS3 version will look like because I read that they're developing with next gen in mind and they will make all the necessary cuts for the older consoles when it comes to that. Honestly, I would rather they abandon support for the 360 and PS3 altogether if the cuts are too drastic.

GTA IV had a trailer in which the graphics were worse than the ones that were in the actual game.

But anyway, you shouldn't really care about graphics when you're playing an RPG.

I don't think there will be the same level as other games, for in the Game Informer videos from last year they had a quick demonstration that they can turn off layers of detail as needed and not need to chop entire graphical effects to allow the game to run.  Now from what we see in the videos won't be what can be done on the 360 and PS3 for they will have to be tweaked down to work, but I think BioWare has been making sure they don't overreach for the PC/XB1/PS4.

Links? It would be useful to have for when the inevitable wave of questions about the differences will be.

Why not? Good graphics make for a more immersive world.

What?

That's like saying I shouldn't care about what melody is playing in a song. Of course you should care about graphics, it's part of the whole package.

Won't be surprised if that was Dark Souls 2 on the PC. On topic, I don't think PC will have as much problems with "optimizing" as consoles might have, let's just hope it won't be too much of a downgrade for you guys.

They want to make the previous gen look somewhat presentable since it has way more players than current gen.

That was actually on the PS3, but apparently frame rates were so bad that they had to cut it out.

Oh gee Watchdogs got a downgrade? What a surprise, seriously did nobody else see that one comming? Personally I wouldnt call it "downgrading" so much as a purposeful misrepresentation of their games, seriously did none of you see this comming? has Oblivion's "radiant AI" taught you nothing?

Different games, different companies, different engines. That is all

That doesn't mean it cannot happen in DAI. Besides Dark Souls and Watch Dogs were made by different companies as well and look what happened.

To be honest, Dark Souls 2 never looked next gen, but lets say it did and downgraded. Its just a coincidence, to try to connect that mishap with other games isnt backed up by anything. Im judging by FrostBites capabilities and we've already seen that it can deliver so i see no reason in misleading the fans when we've seen that quality of graphics before

I hope it doesn't downgrade/downscale too much for the 360 and PS3.

Battlefield 4 for the 360 looked and acted like it was being run on a potato, the textures and graphics were pretty bad, and it lagged like crazy (no idea if this has been fixed.)

That is if it even decided to work.

I'm really, REALLY worried that DAI will be the same.

I pray to God that DAI looks good (at least like DA2) and runs smoothly on my 360.

This is the primary concern of mine. :)

If it runs and looks like crap on BF4...well it could be due to the bugs, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. The 360 is almost 9 years old now, by today's standards, it is a potato.

You should think about upgrading to current gen or PC.

Technically, it already did. The E3 trailer is significantly different compared to the pre-alpha pax demo. The e3 trailer was supposedly in-engine too.

It doesn't matter IMO, as long as it's an improvement over the other games.

Which it totally already is.

How was it significantly different? Both looked pretty similar to me.

I think they're drastically different. Just compare the textures of Varric to what we've seen since. His textures had way more detail in the E3 video.

Even first party studios are doing it too... this is Infamous Second Son running on high-end PC:

And this is Infamous Second Son running on a PS4:

I called bullshit on 90% of what was shown at E3/Gamescom and so far Guerrilla Games were the only ones not blatantly lying.

Dark Souls 2 looks horrible imo. And i am not some guy who faps on graphics and visuals, but cant stand low res textures, in some games, which supposedly look "good". Watch Dogs is downgrading hard. I hope Bioware dont do that, because their fans are passionate and will make quite a fuss about this.

And it's just not console versions that get downgraded.

I know these trailers are running on high end PCs but there is absolutely no reason to downgrade graphics on the PC version since we have options to turn demanding effects off.
