I'm a bit OCD about fixing mistakes due to my job, so I think I'd fail pretty hard if I tried to make myself stick to a no reload rule. The compulsion to fix things is probably going to be too strong to resist, heh.

You wouldn't happen to be an editor, would you? I am, and as such, find myself in such predicaments more often than not.

I tend to say no to this sort of thing encase I reach a spot where the speech paraphrase veers too far from what I wanted to express.

When I saw the title, I thought this meant no reloading at all, and starting a new game if death occurs. That's not something I'd do the first time through, although it's a nice challenge on later playthroughs. Probably not something I'll do at all in Inquisition, in fact, since I usually reserve that for games where I can create the whole party and where party members will stay dead.

I never reload to correct mistakes that were made in character unless they actually render the game unplayable (some games, for instance, you can end up turning every NPC in the land against you by clipping one of them with a fireball, and then it's not possible to finish the game). I will occasionally reload to correct an out of character mistake -- if I accidentally selected a dialogue option I wasn't intending to select, for example -- but otherwise I reload only if the game would otherwise be ended. Reloading for angering a companion or getting a poor outcome on some quest, however, is not something I'd ever do. Goes completely against what I want out of a roleplaying game. Heck, I like screwing those things up now and again. Makes things more interesting.

If the dialogue wheel/paraphrasing causes something that I did not intend, however, I count that as an out of character mistake (likely one causing the character to act out of character, which I will certainly reload to prevent). Hopefully I won't have to this time, but the threat remains.

Yeah, whatever you do, do not ever — and I mean EVER — kill a chicken in Skyrim or, even worse, accidentally clip a city guard who idiotically rushed into the middle of a battle involving the PC and a master vampire. Personal experience here.

Well, since it's how I always play through my first time, I guess I accept the challenge :P

I don't even save a lot the first time, while on following playthroughs I tend to save before important decisions and fun parts, so that I can easily go back.

I will certainly avoid the DA wiki as much as possible. Might use it if I'm stuck at a puzzle for half an hour or something, but won't use it for story decisions and such.

If a choice I made is so severe that it abruptly ends a romance, I will load a saved game though, but I think the player will understand which characters despise certain actions, so that likely won't be necessary.

Not happening for me. On my first playthrough I typically reload after every decision or conversation just in case I missed something cool. I just need all that meta-game information...

I always do this for my first playthroughs. In DA:O I didn't pick up Sten, I just ran past him and didn't reload it when I found out that he's a companion.

I meta-game as little as possible on my initial run - the only time I reload is when I die. (Or when I hit the wrong button. Not the 'oh, crap, I didn't expect that to happen!' kind of wrong button but the 'whoops, I was trying to pick the diplomatic response and accidentally chose murder' kind. Yes, this has happened to me more than once. No, I don't know how I get through life with such poor hand-eye co-ordination either.) Because of publicity I often have my love interest picked out in advance and know who the companions are, but I stay far, far away from any plot spoilers while playing the first time.

I'm gonna try it. I usually do for my very first RPG run through, though I don't think about it much. It should be fun.

I like to have my first play through of every game, especially Bioware games, like this, with no reloads and no peeking at hints. That gives me a good idea of how I want to do on future runs and what I want to do with each type of character and each import of the previous games. There are so many subtle differences possible depending on if my Warden and Hawke were mages, rogues, warriors or any combination. I'm really looking forward to how my decisions will impact my game, and I think that by playing the first time through with no reloads, it's always piqued my interest in the other options and has given me great starting ideas of what I might do differently for replaying the game.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna do this :D

First play through of DA:O, I accidentally annulled the circle and then had to kill Isolde to save Connor.
Alistair was not impressed :(

The first time I played DAO, I killed Connor even if the circle hadn't been annulled, and I kept that character as my canon. I was afraid of using blood magic in an area with a weak veil and didn't trust poor Jowan with the ritual, I still had an "abominations must be killed" mentality (magi origin) and was terrified by the possibility of mind control and wouldn't dream of leaving the castle for days. Alistair wasn't impressed that way either, but I told him to sod off and go play with his statuettes.

I only reload or change decisions if my character says something terrible, usually.

Dude, in no such way did I imply your question was stupid. Good God. Just as soon as you think you don't need emoticons to denote the meaning of your words, you find out that, no, you really do need emoticons. Sheesh. And I thought the Jedi quote at the end was indicative enough of my mood at the time.

Sweety, I wasn't upset. Apparently, we both need to use more emoticons. ;)

Look at all these people, who will reload their game

as soon as they make the wrong decision.

I'm probably going to.  It's not like I'm going to know the difference or a better way until after I beat it.

*bounces* I'm up for it, I am! My first playthrough is always a "test" run, anyway. It's boring to get everything "perfect" from the start ... It's so much more rewarding to do another playthrough and learn from the "mistakes" of the previous one(s), discover new content and stuff. :)

I don't believe any of you will do this unless you set difficulty to easy peasy.

I think my first runs actually tend to be more "perfect" than my subsequent runs, even though I don't reload decisions.  In those runs I'm trying to "win", and I'm familiar enough with how Bioware tend to write things to do it.  It's my subsequent playthroughs when I'm coming at things from more of a perspective of trying to tell a good story - and where I'm trying out choices I skipped - that bad things start happening to break up the protagonists inherent mary-sueness.

My 2nd Shepard in particular had a pretty horrible time of it.

Most people aren't talking about not reloading if you die in combat, just not reloading for story outcomes.

Lol same!! And I'm pretty sure Lelianna also attacked me in my first playthrough. First Warden was basically full of fails but hey, what can you do.
