My first playthrough is pretty much what would I do in the situation, I like to see how I affect the world/story. Always end up with a god awful build though
*shudders*
As I don't like to read descriptions when there's adventure to be had!

I'm in!
This has been my personal policy with first-playthroughs of both DA and ME games. It can be hard (especially with romance scenes) not to reload in order to experience different conversations but for maximum role-playing impact I feel pretty strongly that the first time should be gut-instinct-only with absolutely no do-overs.

My typical first playthrough is like this. Then my second or third playthrough is more or less perfect because of reloads.

My first playthrough, despite the errors etc,is always my most savoured moment when playing a game. It's when I know next to nothing of the plot and the characters and react to the events as I want my character to react without already knowing the consequences.(Though I do check online guides and reload sometimes, If I'm sceptical about a critical event like the landsmeet,or when I disliked an option I made rp-wise,and then found a more compromising solution that fit's my character).
So I definitely prefer to play a game "blindly",although I must admit that it's extremely difficult to ignore spoilers...

I try not to reload. But it's been known to happen.
Sometimes because I don't get the paraphrase , (but I had this problem with The Witcher 2 , the Walking Dead etc...) if it's just something minor , I don't mind.If my character do something I really don't want him/her to .Well I reload.
Somehow I'm pretty good when it comes to quests , innocents are saved , everyone's happy...but getting along with companions is just a whole different story.
And with Dragon Age game somehow , by the end ...everything goes wrong. And This is where I tend to reload , and this is where it doesn't do much anyway. ![]()

Man.... I want to do this, but the second I do something wrong (like get a companion killed or something), I just know that by reflex I'm gonna hit the reload button.
However, I'll try. For my first playthrough at least.

@OP:
A blind playthrough is certainly most authentic. I will attempt it, though with one caveat: if the dialogue wheel paraphrasing makes my character say things I didn't intend, I will reload until I get an acceptable version of the conversation.
(I'd be very surprised should I really be able to play a complete game without reloading for exactly that reason)

For added epicness, we should play on the hardest difficulty setting and decide that our character is a "hardcore" character. If you haven't played ARPG's in a while: that means that when you die, you die. No reloads at all. A random pack of wolves wipes out your party because you were dicking around with your phone while playing? Tough ****, New Game time for you.

I plan on doing a "blind" playthrough as well!
Like many others, that's what I tend to do in almost any game: no spoilers, no looking for suggestions (well, unless I really, really get stuck somewhere in a puzzle D: ), no reload to change my choices. Actually, both my main "canon" playthroughs were done this way and I was rather satisfied with the results! The one and only exception I had was in DA2 with the Night Terrors quest,
Other than that, though, I'm all for it! I don't think I would ever have the patience to go for a "dead is dead" kind of playthrough, though, lol.

Challenge accepted! I tend to be really guilty of using meta knowledge and reloads so it will be really interesting to see how a blind playthrough works out! I am, however, going to allow for reloads when it comes to misleading dialogue. Hopefully DAI will be better than DA2 in that respect, though.

That would be called a "Nightmare ironman" playthrough. Not for me though. I don't play for the combat. While certainly possible, I don't think DAI is the kind of game that invites that playstyle.

Well, until it's any crucial mistake coming from my bad translation (I'm Czech), then I'm in! ![]()

I agree to your challenge. I shall avoid Ferelden fashion, lest I incur the wrath of Vivienne...

That's how I usually play anyway; reloading for "better" outcomes and reading guides defeats the purpose of making decisions in the first place for me. You could probably say the same about Ironman mode, but the idea of one mistake costing me all of my progress and causing me to have to repeat the entire game fills me with dread, although I do see the appeal.
So... Challenge accepted, I guess?

i never reload.

@OP, ok i'm game. I for one like to play on the hardest settings i possibly can in a game.
Dunno why, but i like to fight with sweat, blood and tears to progress in a game. A "blind" playthrough is gonna be AMAZING on DA:I i think, and then add nightmare to that? Yes please!
PS: anyone else that want a "clear the game on nightmare" achivement?

Eh... count me out for this challenge, though chances are I'll play my first playthrough blindly anyways.

"First Playthrough Challenge: No RE-Loading" is the reason why all of my first runs always ends up with half my party died.
But for ME2 for some reason still not sure how that happen

Considering I plan to cause as much chaos and anarchy as possible I never reload so I've already won.
#123
Posté 27 mars 2014 - 07:54
That's how I always do my first playthrough, which is why they always mess up so much!
My first playthrough of ME2 definitely went that way, with Thane dying on the suicide mission since I wasn't paying attention to the 'tech' part of 'tech specialist'. And Isabela ran off in my first DA2 playthrough, since it wasn't until later that I had her in my party all the time.

Since this is the 1st Dragon Age game that I plan to preorder (goodbye $60+
), I will play it completely blind and deal with the consequences. I'm looking forward to that.

Well, unless they release a comprehensive guide, I'm not going to know what "mistakes" I made until it's too late, am I?
But I don't base many of my choices on some potential future (except that I will metagame in order to ensure I experience as much content in one playthrough as possible).
Mostly, I do what I feel is right in the current situation, rather than wangsting about what-ifs. And I don't assume the blame for any negative consequences that result.
For instance, I will always let Grace go free, even knowing what she ultimately becomes, because that is the right thing to do in that moment. And I don't assume the blame or feel any guilt at all for what she does in Act 3. Grace is responsible for her own choices.
