I found this in Wiki for shield mastery:

The character has mastered the use of the shield for both offense and defense, and receives additional benefits when using various Weapon & Shield abilities.

Shield Bash: The attribute bonus is added a second time, but does not scale with criticals. Shields do 5-1 base damage, have an attribute scale factor of 1, and attribute damage is randomized in the range [0.25:0.5], effectively scaling the same as a dual-wielded longsword, but with a different base damage.
Shield Pummel: Attribute bonus is added to each attack as with Shield Bash.

Assault: Weapon damage rolls (not attribute) are always maximized.

Overpower: Weapon damage rolls (not attribute) are always maximized. Due to a bug in shield damage, this forces Overpower to deal a base damage of 1 with each strike, actually reducing the damage dealt.

Shield Defense: +5 Defense.

Shield Wall: +10 Defense.

Shield Cover: +10 Missile Deflection.

Does this mean you should not take both? If you take overpower don't take shield mastery??? Was this ever fixed?

You should take all of them. The main use of Overpower is for shattering (critical) and for keeping enemies off balance (e.g. emissaries) but in any case the reduction in base damage is immaterial compared to the advantages that you get from Shield Mastery.

With Mastery and Expertise, all three defensive stances (Defence, Wall and Cover) offer exactly the same effective missile deflection. Shield Cover is totally redundant, drop it from your quickbar as soon as you have Shield Balance. By activating Shield Wall instead of Shield Defence you trade 5 defence for 5 armour and knockdown immunity. The wiki says that the damage penalty is pure fiction, which makes Shield Wall the best all-round choice. Activate and forget.

However, if you plan on switching between melee and ranged (e.g. for pulling an ogre) then it is better to activate SD a bit earlier, so that SW will already have cooled down when you have pricked your ogre and it is heading towards you. SD has an extremely fast cooldown but SW takes a while, and for facing the ogre you'll usually want SW instead of SD in case of a grab.

Just some thoughts.

I went for Overpower and Assault early on, did that tree and the Shield mastery tree ASAP. There are a fair amount of errors on the wikia and that was likely never updated as being fixed. i haven't had any problems with Overpower.

I think shield wall reduces your offense.  It's usually better to leave it off unless you have shield expertise so you don't get knock down against some foes You need shield wall on.  Like Dragons and Broodmothers. Things like that.  I usually don't care about shield cover except at the beginning of the game.  Maybe because I spam potions a lot.  I get shield pummel and Overpower but Assault is a low priority but it seem to do a lot of damage.

This wasn't fixed. With Shield Mastery, Overpower's base damage is reduced by 5.75 on an average for base crit modifier. Doesn't really mean that you shouldn't take both though.
