There is a tourney that is held in the Free Marches called The Grand Tourney, it would be nice if we could participate, maybe gaining respect and therefore money/allies for the Inquisition

They could have done that in DA2....too bad, would have wanted to put my hawk up again'st the other champions

I'd like something like an arena, but hopefully nothing like the obnoxious one in Mass Effect 3 that lock away a bunch of upgrades for you unless you slave through specific events and minigames.

Its funny because the award you get is the trophy sword called The Celebrant which hawk does get without having to compete so fingers crossed that they include that tournament. It would be nice to face martial artists from all over thedas from all races

As long as the prize for beating the whole damn thing is an adoring fan. I vote Merrill.

I'd love something like this. It reminds me of the Provings in DA:O, which I always had to do before leaving Orzammar, as well as the extra fights you can engage in for money.

A great multiplayer mode instead?

I love arenas. It never gets old to enter as a virtual nobody and then smash everyone else to pieces.

I would support this as a way to test out party combinations, talent builds and tactics. I don't think they should give exp, seeing as how exp will not likely be in short supply with bad guys respawning in the open world.
I think it was done really well in the Citadel DLC.

But this necessitates a new throwaway MP character. I'm guessing that some people might want something like this for their inquisitor and companions, which requires single player.

They could make the multiplayer part be seamlessly integrated into the Arena. Like they can have an NPC who you can talk to, who then "contacts" other champions from around the world. You fight them in the Arena. We could have various modes, some of which could be;
4 v 4 PVP: Meaning all party members in each group are player Inquisitors.
Inquisitor's party V Inquisitor's party: Each group will have the Inquisitor and his/her single player party(Cassandra, Varric etc), and they will have full control of the party, no pauses allowed.
Inquisitors V Dragon Age: 4-player party v super tough bosses like dragons, group of revenants or whatever you think of. Can be rounds or just survival.
If you think Provings arena could become bland after a while, I'd like to suggest the use of a system of generating random Fade maps as Arenas. This can work since our Inquisitors are capable of opening rifts into the Fade. The Fade maps could have all sorts of randomly generated maybe even destructible obstructions. The player groups will have to find each other(not so big for anyone to get lost tho) and then fight rather than the fight starting immediately after entering the Fade.

If no exp then I don't want.

if it had exp than they would have to limit the number of times you can do it otherwise people could just grind it and then blast through the entire game. I think money with leveled enemies as well as multiple different challenges would be fun but at the same time I don't think it is the type of thing that bioware likes to do. I mean they tried it with ME1 and ME3: Citadel but thats it really...

And that is...bad? This is something I actually miss a lot in many modern RPGs...the grinding. I think it should be my choice whether I want to spend five hours beating the same enemies just so I have an easier time for the rest of the game. I mean, I AM working for it after all. I've always liked grinding. ![]()
(I actually couldn't finish FFXIII because the damn game didn't allow me to level up the character's skills without advancing to the next story segment. I hated it and haven't touched the game since.)

Not really as after you get experience a few times the amount of experience needed to go up a level is not worth doing the combat.

I don't think combat should just be a means to acquire xp. It should be fun and challenging enough to be rewarding on in its own right.

I don't know. I often fight because I am forced to and typically prefer to solve things without fighting (either with cunning/diplomacy or subterfuge).

More alive?
I rather thought the whole point of an arena was to make the world more dead.
