Sorry if this was posted elsewhere (move to existing topic then please).

I hate to be critical but I was put off for several reasons.

1st, everything looks like a cutout, so even an cardboard like. Squarey shapes everywhere.

2nd bold guy looks like hes wearing track-suit of some sort o_O, I see clipping (parts of armour) here and there I think.

3rd, empty spaces much? Every city space We saw was kinda empty, the new screen is too. I wonder if the cart owner got a ticket for parking next to a gate...

Foliage looks great though, ground - not so much. In most cases it looks like "placed by a hand " to me. Maybe its a procedural problem with filling out enviros?

Some of the lighting looks off a bit, escpecially in underground, dark locations. Sometimes characters are exposed to extra source of lighting/glow - which is wierd imo.

Textures look great.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that these screens have been posted quite a few times :P

To be honest, I don't follow any of your opinions. I don't see how you're getting the 'cardboard cut out' feel. I'm not seeing that.

The tracksuit, yeah, okay. I'll give you that one. But the best part about it? It doesn't matter! Any armor can be customized in a number of different ways, and any companion can be given any armor, as long as they meet the requirements! You'll never be forced to look at the track suit! Yay!

As for the empty spaces, keep in mind that the game is still in Pre-Alpha. They only just released a playable build to the team a few months ago. And being playable does not equal anything near complete. You can play the game beginning to end, but you're probably going to run into enemies who are just wireframes, and 90% of the characters are going to be voiced by the ever popular Microsoft Sam. The single screenshot that does take place in a city is from the Discover the Dragon Age trailer which was only meant to show off the environments, anyway. Not any of the crowds or stuff.

Lastly, that 'underground' part you're referring to is not actually underground. It's in the Fade, which explains the green glow and odd lighting. Also, he is casting a magical spell in the place where all magic comes from. Keep that in mind.

I like them there is very little brown which is a vast improvement upon DA2.

I like the two dotted magical circles the mage does when casting. Ohh and do we even know when the screens were taken? If I recall, gamestar could finally release the info they got from BW a few months back. So maybe if the screens would be taken now we would see more space taken up.

Who's the rogue in the giant screenshot? They don't seem to be following the Inquisitor's usual color scheme.

It`s the same one in the pic going down the hill and it`s the Inquisitor himself / herself . You can change the armor colours of the Inquisition .

Green seems to have replaced brown on the colour palette.

@ Op. I tend to agree with you.

If these are the "best" screen shots to show off the game... that is a major worry. So far I've been impressed with what I've seen but these look like a major step backwards IMO?

The troll looks great, along with some of the environmental elements but everything else looks a little last gen. However, I'm not sure when these were taken or if they where "officially" released by BW.... so I'll wait & see.

I'm still excited for the game but this might be a little reminder to contain our expectations.

Can you point me to anything that comes as fresh in screens category please? I am in the dark for some time now when it comes to BW games (ME3 being my last dissapointment).

When I said cardboard I ment no irregular curves of the outlines of the characters and items. Look at the dragons tail and the perfect blocks in the 1st screen. A perfect example. Its like 3d (textures look and detail) encapsuled in 2d (models look one dimensional).

So, the game comes somewhere this fall (I think) and you claim its in Pre-Alpha? You mean key gameplay functionality is NOT implemented, and assets are not even partially finished? Form Pre-Alpha to Gold in 6 months? Is it reasonable? I think this means trouble or postponed.

The screens sure look nice, but aren't anything jaw breaking in my opinion. But apparently if the "Dev Tweets" are anything to go by, they've had a graphical improvement that have made it look even better.

Still, having this game on both Next and Current Gen will 'hinder' the game a bit reaching its fullest potential.

Yeah those destruction effects look really artificial, that dragon is way too low poly with 2D wings and those textures seem really low res.

Hopefully the images are off because it's from a magazine scan and details might have been lost...but I have also noticed certain models being too low poly (sharp edges, everything looks really blocky) in other screenshots.

The best case scenario is that these pics were taken from last gen consoles. The worst case is that everything has been downgraded because last gen can't handle it.

Don't forget all this is pre-alpha footage and not a true representation of the final product

and either way it looks much better than DA 2 already :P

So you mean the game will look much worse by the time it releases? :P

It has a bit of a weird aesthetic that I can't quite describe. The environments have this weird plastic feeling and the game looks like a 3d version of a board game. There's just something about the environments and the models that make me think of figurines on a highly decorated field/locale. As if Warhammer were rendered into realistic 3d. Like look at the Troll/Ogre/? picture with the 3 party members facing it.

I think from a technical standpoint, it's quite impressive and very detailed. So I have no issues with regards to that.

Yeah I know what you mean. Everything looks really shiny and unreal. And that dragon looks like she's made out of rubber.

Almost looks like they were photos taken of another screen with a camera. Perhaps a little too clear and focused for that.

Having played Assassins Creed IV which is on both current gen (otherwise known as next gen lol) and previous, and I can attest to it still being a thouroughly gorgeous looking game (as long as kenway keeps his hood up - his hair is awful), some of this may be art style, but if its anything to go by I have no worries for DA:I. TBH, Dragon Age Origins came out looking very dated graphics-wise and was amazing, I can live with the graphics not being jaw dropping as long as the writing and gameplay are good - and lets face it, this is Bioware.

They have more important things to concentrate on getting right - I love graphics, yet DAII was much more superior graphically than DA:O, yet lacked in other areas despite combat improvements and voiced protagonists.

...Am I the only one who actually likes these screenshots? I don't think they look terrible at all, except for maybe Solas' long johns. And what's wrong with open spaces? You're transversing countries - the plains and fields being crossed would naturally be grassy and devoid of much except wildlife.

I think it's difficult to judge the graphics on low-resolution screenshots. I'l reserve judgement until I see 1920 x 1080 gameplay video.
