I think Morrowind is probably the most overrated of the bunch personally.

You on weed?
Yeah, why?
I think Morrowind is probably the most overrated of the bunch personally.
Agree. I mean, out of III-V, Morrowind does have the best world to explore, but that's canceled out by the fact that everyone says the Same. Thing. Over. And. Over. And whereas Skyrim's combat is simply milquetoast, Morrowind's combat is flat-out atrocious.
And, yet, so many "hardc00r RPG-ers" treat it like the holy grail. When it was actually a step back from the Ultima series (Underworlds included) and Fallout 1 and 2 in many ways in the open-world department.
dragon age origins. has too much of a slow start and the game makes me feel like I am an errand boy.
That award goes to LoL in my opinion. It was great for a month or two, but the appeal quickly faded.

Half Life 2? No? Alright.

^Dis. Do people love it for the MP? I tried the campaign and was unimpressed.

HL2: Deathmatch gets thoroughly boring after a while.

I think part of what made HL2 so popular was what it brought to the table when it came out. That and the incredible flexibility of the the Source engine.

The closest I've gotten to grav gun environmental mayhem fun is beating demons with cars in Darksiders.
Someone else mentioned this earlier, but for me it is the Diablo franchise. I just do not understand the appeal. I played the original for maybe an hour before I got bored, and the clips I see on youtube for Diablo III just don't seem compelling - hordes and hordes of enemies to kill. I just don't get it.
Phantasy Star Online.
The pinnacle of "numbers for the sake of numbers".

True enough.
Half Life 2? No? Alright.
IMO? No.
It was completely over-hyped at E3 and the game still turned out to be better than I expected.
If you played the game now for the first time, you might think it was overrated, but 9 years ago, it was widely recognized by far the best video game ever made.

I say WoW and TF2.
Perfect illustration of what is wrong with the industry. You can insert Mario Brothers, GTA, Zelda, Final Fantasy, COD; It's the same problem.
Let's not forget about fable and halo

Considering the consistent quality of Zelda games (and to a lesser extent, Mario), I wouldn't group the franchise with the others. Unlike Assassin's Creed where every game between Brotherhood and Black Flag was lackluster.

It is true AAA side of biz has come to play it very, very safe. We don't get nearly as many new franchises as anyone would like. Everything is always a sequel. If name isn't familiar and safe, then at the very least genre always is. It is boring.
STILL!! if Mario, Zelda, GTA are prime examples of what you think is wrong with the industry, it must be in very good state in your opinnion:p These are franchises with very impressive track record. Precious few Mario games have ever been considered disappointing. Within few years they've moved back and forth between 2d and 3d. Vastly different controller solutions. Latest 3-4 GTA games have gotten intergalatctic love more or less. While rockstar certainly hasn't broken the mold, atleast V was a pretty significant improvement in more or less every field imagineable. Basically mentioning any of them in same sentence with COD is unfair. Every post in this thread that isn't about COD is offtopic.
Largest problem of industry is that people buying most games are stupid, horny 20 year olds. They buy games made for stupid, horny 20 year olds and as a result, more or less every AAA game is made for a stupid, horny 20 year old. Such games can sometimes be good. Such games always are about some douchebag in buzzcut taking cover behind container and killing stuff with lasors. It is either FPS or over the shoulder. You spend 70%-100% of gametime killing ****. 97% of items you manipulate in this game are either wapons or things to make your weapons shootier. It comes with co op. You can press green button of your xbox controller to hide behind container. Sometimes it ends up being a good game. Sometimes it ends up being a bad game. Almost always it is essentially a very dumb game. And it costs about as much to make as average missions to ISS.
Yo, a proper GTA game is released every four years or so. How is that a problem when the general consensus is that the games are awesome?
Are you in the games industry?
GTA isn't a good example, you're right. Rockstar takes their time on those games. But they are more or less the same concept each time out.

So? The problem is when the concept and namesake are poorly-handled, especially in the case of "milking". That's what separates CoD, AC and Final Fantasy from the others. It also becomes an issue when new IPs have a hard time making it.
