All this GTA IV hate is making my butt hurt.
Am I fanboy for loving GTA IV more than any other game in the franchise?

Totally a GTA IV fanboy, and I'm telling everyone. j/k.
Aww, don't let it get to you. Thank goodness we're not all carbon copies of each other. How boring would that be? ![]()
I liked GTA IV ok, but preferred SR3. Streaking ftw!
It's not? I mean I know it's David and all but I think he's right. If you play a game and don't like it why would you buy the next one? That sounds like common sense to me. Maybe I'm missing a part of the convo here.
Because the TWD Ep. 1 basically does nothing but set up the characters. You can't really judge the whole thing based on that, if David had played Ep. 2 and still didn't enjoy it that would make more sense

Ep 1 shows you the mechanics of the game, including the time-based choice structure. You also get a sense for the writing, and what type of character interaction you might expect. It's more than enough to get a sense for the game. Obviously if you aren't sure if you like it, playing Ep 2 before deciding makes sense. But if you don't like Ep 1 because of how the things listed above are done, it makes sense not to keep going.
Two somewhat older games I can think of off the top of my head:
Arcanum has a great reputation for its choice and consequence system, but I never got far enough to test that out. I found basic navigation through the game world incredibly frustrating. Sometimes during a fetch quest, I would find the quest item, and then get so badly lost just trying to get back to the place where I initiated the quest that I would have to reload. It doesn't help that a decent percentage of character builds will make it next to impossible to get out of the first town.
Wing Commander III is another highly regarded game I didn't like very much. Between the truly horrific load times and some story developments I didn't care for even slightly, it's easily my least favorite of the series.
Oblivion
Mass Effect
I'm obviously not going to spend money and time on future installments of a series if the first one leaves me unimpressed. That's just common sense.
It's also the entire point of offering me the first episode for free in the first place. If they aren't comfortable with their work being judged by their first entry, I really don't see why they would be doing that.
Thankfully people don't use this whack logic.
Ya, The Last of Us for sure yo. All you seem to do is stroll around all sneaky and stuff plundering abandoned tool sheds and underwear drawers. Yeah, I'm sure there's some dialogue thrown in that will move the odd pencil neck to tears. ![]()
Haven't played a GTA game yet that I didn't give up on about a third of the way through.
- The Last of Us
- Skyrim
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Call of Duty
Could you show yourself out, sir.
Could you show yourself out, sir.
No. The game is overrated period, it would have been better as a movie, because it's game play is medicore at best
lol I wouldn't call COD overrated, everyone knows its ****e.

Gone Home.
I simply stated that I do not understand why one would like senseless murder and theft in a video game. I also would prefer to not understand their mindset, because I frankly. Don't. Care. Why.
So this is the part where I leave the thread because
a) People do seem to enjoy misreading posts
b )clearly people love to overreact about internet forum posts (teh intrnet iz srs bsns)
c) if anyone is getting a warning point, it ain't gonna be me
I thought it was pretty funny running other players over online.

Nothing wrong with what he said, the gameplay of GTA IV was mediocre, though I gotta disagree, it would make a terrible movie.

Witcher series. I don't get the hype. The control doesn't feel right to me, the storyline is just not very memorable. It has a rapid fanbase that will bite anyone who says something slightly bad about it, so I guess it's just one of those polarized games, I supposed.

Is that right? It's 'whack logic' not to spend money on a game if the first 20% leaves you very unimpressed?
Having witnessed some of the unfortunate shilling of the Witcher here on this forum to spite BioWare games, it's not hard to guess why it has it's proponents despite perhaps not being all that good of a game.
- It's a smaller developer
- It has a generous patch and DLC policy
- It has a loose DRM policy.
- It's supposedly 'mature' in that it embraces very heavy sex and violence.
- It has a supposedly 'dark' and 'mature' story.
As we all hopefully know, the 'gamer' community has no end of people who are angry at big corporations like EA and Activision for their policies on DLC, DRM, and appealing to supposed 'causal' gamers. It's obvious as to why the developers of the Witcher would be heralded as the darling of such people, since they seem to be the antithesis of all of that.
However, for whatever those things are worth, they aren't competence. They aren't good characters, good plots, or good style. Those things are all separate.

There are certain moments in that game, that if you are NOT doing it through the gameplay, the execution of certain scenes would fall flat, as related to your "move instead" comment.

I've heard people claim Planescape: Torment is overrated. Or that Bladur's Gate 2 is not an RPG.
Yeah, I don't put much faith in what people think are overrated. But because I'm an absolute pillock and a raging hypocrite...
THAT GODDAMNED ****** CALL OF DUTY FRANCHISE!!!!!1111
