I just wanted to continue this discussion since the last thread was moved and archived. Since Bioware is still selling Bioware points, I imagine this topic is still relevant and open for discussion. As far as I know, the last time Bioware points went on sale was when the Witch Hunt DLC for Dragon Age Origins was released, some time back in 2010.

Essentially all Bioware DLC content is locked behind the Bioware point gate, and it seems like EA/Bioware have either forgotten about marketing and promoting BIoware points through sales (the same way EA/Origin have put numerous other titles and DLC on sale) or they have simply chosen to sell Bioware points without putting them on sale for 2-3 years straight.

Either way, I'd like to see if we can get someone from Bioware or EA to comment on if and when Bioware points will ever be put on sale.

Short answer: greed.

Long answer: greeeeeeeed.

More answer: They luv to hold their DLC hostage. You can buy games like ME1, ME2, ME3 very cheaply for example, but the DLC is the real catch. You get addicted to the game, you'll eventually shell out money to get your fix of more. They do not conceive making game of the year editions. Or at least they don't do it very often. I think Dragon Age Origins was the last.

Well I asked one of the forum mods why the Bioware Points Subforum was put under archive, and he said it was just because nobody was assigned to answer questions there anymore and it was moved over to the Answer HQ. I initially thought we had made enough noise and they were considering changing Bioware Points to cash or had some announcement concerning them, but no luck it seems.

Sadly DA:I and ME4 will probably also use biopoints for milking and I don't think we'll see a pricedrop on those... At least until we're dead and forgotten.

Hey, I just wanted to ask if anyone from Bioware or EA can comment on the sales or promotions of Bioware points. Going something like 3+ years without a sale seems like a bit of oversight to me. I'd love to see Bioware address this issue so we don't have to speculate about whether or not Bioware has forgotten or given up on Bioware points.

Actually I would find a suitable option to drop the old DLC contents price (like to 50%), if the biopoint pay system will be used to purchase in the next ME or DA game.

I would love to buy all the contents, that I do not own right now, but from that amount I could simply buy an another AAA title game in collector edition with all DLC packs (like premium stuff to Battle Field 3 or 4 or some famous assassin game from a french game developer company, where you get all upcoming DLC-s).

And yet, here I am with all 3 ME installers and limited DLC-s. Just drop the point price of the old content, I know people worked on them and they need some income in exchenge for it, but after this much time those amounts are simply not real.

To show my commitment I would even buy those DLC-s, that I am not interested in (eg. Genesis for ME2/3), if they were bundled and on sale

But to quit whining here are some posotive experiences: ME1 Origin installer "now" includes all two DLS-s free of charge, just register your CD key to Origin (as I did yesterday with my 4 year old copy). Hurray! And if you are lucky you can catch a sale on DA Origins - ultimate edition (all DLC-s are included) for 5€ at an other game store (twice a year).

Well, that had to come out, thank you for reading, but now I don't feel like buying 6400 BP for 80€ when I got ME3 N7 DDE for 6€.

Bought DA II a while back and thought it's about time I play it, went to grab a few DLC's but certainly not going to pay the full price, even new they are a bit high, let alone for a game a few years old.

It highlights why I have always disliked the DLC model, without sales you have no choice but either paying an OTT price or go without, with DLC's you also get far less bang for your buck in regards to hours of gameplay vs price and then the possibility of some content that could or should have been in the game, taken out to be sold as DLC.

I guess I will just end up playing without them, when I was perfectly willing to pay a fair price for them.

Had they been on steam, we would have seen the DLC's on sale multiple times by now :(

Bumpity Bump

Yup. I'm the new guy so I will not turn my first post into a TOTAL rant. But this is

just to kindly remind Bioware (if they are monitoring this any more) that the topic

of Bioware Points is still pertinent and needs attention.

Long story short... I'm an old skool player who has rediscovered FPS gaming and

now the hybird RPG/Shooter games and it's all thanks to Steam.

I'm NOT alone. The sales via Steam are staggering and they are growing. Which

brings new players to more dated games like ME1 and ME2. Bioware is leaving

money on the table by not offering DLC to older games at a discount.

I am certain I'm not the only one who looks for great value in older games, and

there is no way I'm ever going to pay $10+ for a single short DLC to a game

where I purchsed both ME1 and ME2 combined for around $7.

Think about it.

Discount the number of Bioware Points required for older DLC and pick up a

few extra bucks with zero effort. Keep in mind that these are direct to customer

sales and Steam is not in for a cut, so you can afford to give a discount.

Actually, you can't afford NOT to discount these unless you just like leaving

money on the table. Bioware made what... 3 or 4 bucks... when I purchased

ME1 and ME2 on sale via Steam. You could easily make $20 from me by

offering a DLC package which includes all DLC for those games. All of  that

direct from me to you. That's seven times what you made on the initial sale.

A discount is a win-win any way you cut it.

I should be going now.

I should be going now.

But you hit the nail on the head with such eloquence (and thanks to your post I felt compelled to launch into a bit of a rant myself, so it would seem)...

I purchased Mass Effect back in '08 off Ebay for something like $25.  Loved it so much I paid $80 for ME2 Collector's Ed. in '10 and another $30 on DLC for that game as they came out.  Two years later I bought ME3 CE for $85...and after enduring the travesty of 'that ending' I promptly gave all three games away (and my original Origin account) in abject disgust.

Suffice to say, my experience after ME3 made me much more wary as to how I spent my money with regards to games.  Before ME3, and especially with regards to Bioware in general, all it took was an announcement of some new game/product and I'd be all "shut up and take my money!!" about it.  Now, not so much...

To add insult to injury, that same friend I foisted those games on gifted me Mass Effect and ME2 on Steam during the 2012 Holiday sale (to this day I'm not sure if he did it as some kind of sick joke).  Being the completest I am, I felt compelled to purchase ME3...again...this time, through Origin (after creating a new account, of course).

Lo and behold, I see the Digital Deluxe edition of ME3 for $20, and with a not insignificant amount of hesitation, purchased it.  With time, I actually played through the trilogy once more (sans most DLC for ME2, including LoTSB and Arrival, as flawed as that was) and enjoyed it again (aside from ME3's ending, which the Director's Cut made merely marginally deficient instead of an outright farce).

I'm pretty sure that was the last product I've purchased off of Origin.  The only other products I've purchased off Origin was Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition for my original Origin account for some absurdly low (even at the time) price of around $5-6, which was actually cheaper than Steam at the time and genuinely surprised the hell out of me, and the execrable Pinnacle Station DLC for ME1 (which is the ONLY DLC for ANY Mass Effect game I've seen on sale for the PC, EVER.).

Of course, when I relinquished my initial Origin account, I had to kiss all that (and my ME2 DLC which I couldn't get on Steam and I'll be damned if I pay full price for DLC with Bioware's idiotic points for what will soon be a FIVE year old game) goodbye and start anew.  Luckily, that same friend gifted me DA:O Ultimate Edition...through Steam.

So, I think I've spent roughly $30 through Origin since its inception.  By comparison, Steam has successfully relieved me of around $375 per year since 2011 during their Summer/Holiday sales (not quite how to feel about that).  EA/Bioware make up a rather small percentage of my Steam purchases, roughly $30-40 total, which, unless my math is off, is around 2%.

Last EA product I purchased was Bulletstorm for $4 during the current holiday sale...off Steam.

There's still a place in my heart for Mass Effect (and Dragon Age), but I'm not going to give away my hard-earned cash, digital or otherwise paying full release price for DLC, of which the newest one for ME3 will be two years old this coming March, especially when I can go buy complete A-list titles from developers that seem to give more of a damn about their fans/customers than EA/Bioware on Steam that are newer for the same price or less, and out of general principle I sure as hell won't be buying Mass Effect 4/Next/whatever or DA:I (especially with regards to how PC gamers are being screwed yet again via sloppy porting) or anything else coming out of Bioware until this particular issue has been addressed and rectified to my satisfaction and others who share my viewpoint.

Given EA/Bioware's track record, I'm not holding out much hope...

This and this. It would be nice to hear ANYTHING from EA or BioWare on the topic other than the ramblings of one incoherent customer service rep. I'd gladly toss money at the screen to grab all the DA and ME DLC, but I'm not paying full price for two hours worth of five year old content when the full games can be had for $5 or less. I haven't even bought DA2 or DA:I yet because I can't get the full DA2 experience without spending an unreasonable amount of money. Until I can, I'll be playing one of the many hundreds of games in my Steam library (and throwing more of my money at Steam/Valve while I'm at it).

I like to renew the interest in this topic.

xbox gold has again a 50 % sale on of me dlc.

I am one of many people who might be still interested in picking up a few dlc for their pc versions (I have most of them already on the xbox 360).

I am 100% not interested in buying these again for the full asking price but might do for 75 % or maybe the odd one for 50 %.   These games are old and most of me and dao/da2 owners already have these for one or the other consoles.

The only reason I can find behind all this, that bioware is just not interest in making money out of their franchise.  Everyone has a sale on at least once a year, but somehow bioware manages to dismiss this.  Surely it also advertises the franchise and gives it a certain revival...unless they are ashamed of their products?

Very odd behaviour here,  can only compare it with overzealous cat/dog rescue establishments, that rather would like me to donate money for them to keep their pets instead of me giving it a loving home, bizzare...I would just like to know the reasoning behind this.  Honesty goes a long way, so ... how about it bioware?

Bioware points are a cash cow for EA who won't discount them

I am pretty sure bioware points has something to do with bioware (hence the name).  Origin/EA/xboxGold have plenty of sales on, this is biowares ground.  This threat alone has over 1200 view = interest in this subject  (and there are plenty of threats hanging around on the internet about this topic).  This one alone would mean 1200+ potential buyers plus all other postings a saw anywhere else.  This is holding on to a franchise that could make money,  makes no sense.

Dragon Age, Dead Space and Mass Effect all went to 70% discount on all it's DLC today during newest PSN sale.

Bioware, you really, really need to turn the price on BP's down, or feature some discounts. This is really outrageous. 1200BP (12€) for every DLC, and I can get it for 4,49€ on PSN.

It's been years since the game came out.

Yeah, but EA gets the money since they own Bioware
