I have to admit, I'm curious how a person would function in everyday life if they're 'really annoyed' by being given a weapon in a video game. If that's 'really annoying' to them. If they're 'really annoyed' by such a thing. If being given a weapon is 'really annoying.'
You have the technical mind that you claim no one else has. So why don't you figure it out?

@Massive
Still don't see how a Scorched Earth policy achieves anything except speeding the Reapers' invasion timetable and breaking down morale and trust in leadership. Saying "I'm The Shepard, deal with it or crawl off and die" doesn't change these realities.
That, and Miranda's approval, would be my only limitations. Wondering whether or not it is the the most economical course of action is an issue. That said, morale is going to get ruined no matter what happens. As is trust in leadership (and vice versa). They can trust me all they want, if I'm not getting results (which I feel I wouldn't), it's not going to matter to me. Trust is a two-way street. I can have the undying loyalty of a company of Soldiers, but if they're unable or unwilling to get their hands dirty to accomplish the mission, then I'm not going to have the best use out of them.

Does it 'really annoy' you Massively? Does it 'really annoy' you that biotics are given a pistol at the start of the game? Are you 'really annoyed' that BioWare didn't decide it would be a grand idea to not give biotics a weapon?
Are you 'really annoyed' that I don't take you seriously David? Does it 'really annoy' you that I feel this way? Are you 'really annoyed' that I'm so wrong? Does it 'really annoy' you that I post on here?

Yep, and shockwave, and warp. Starting at level 30 gives you so many options to kill them.
Endlessly.
Until you have to use a pistol.
Of course, you could start at level 60. Then it's just not fair.
Also, back to the main topic, I just want to point out that, IIRC, Liara said she had commando training in her 50s and 60s.

What's a 'Technical Engineer'?
U.S. Army term for Engineering Technician, specifically the name of the job.

I'd be interested to see where she says this. She's the only ME1 squadmate for whom no training credentials have been provided, at least that I've encountered. Tali was the only other questionable one, but there's dialogue establishing she received extensive combat training from her father pre-pilgrimage. If Liara had commando training before being picked up on Therum, it'd be easier for me to take her seriously (the bubble incident notwithstanding).Of course, you could start at level 60. I'd question the value of others like Kasumi in a front-line fight as well, but that's another can of worms.

"A lot of guys ignore the laugh, and that's about standards. If you're gonna be in the Evil League of Evil, you have to have a memorable laugh."
Professor David also offer's courses that allow one to easily and childishly assess the sociology of people on the internet, being able to conclude that they're sad, insecure people who are lying to themselves and pretending to laugh hollowly at the One who espouses the heroic, meaningful, and powerful virtues that are honored and rare in reality!

I do. People had drinking games where we took a swing whenever he said a certain word or phrase. I tried it once for a pre-game for a shindig (like legit pre-gaming too I mean), and I had to skip the party because I was too tipsy to get into my bloody car. My lady companion at the time was wondering wtf I was so stoned for; suffice to say, I stopped that tactic real quick. But it sure made for some great drunk posting. I'm sure everybody remembers those wonderful times...
Hell, I won't lie, I was drunk when I came up with the idea to rip David's arguments apart by calling out all of his logical fallacies.

Omni-Science? That's about as far removed from David U. as possible, since that would involve actual scientific understanding to attend.

Classic example was when he said that the ease with which he grasped physics (a topic people see as difficult) meant it would be no harder for a raw recruit to become an SF-tier soldier in "a couple of months" with the right instructors. That Liara should have started with zero experience or training to justify The Shepard training her to his level in a Team America-style montage. He's claimed practical and applied knowledge in each, and criticized and attacked actual people here in said professions.

Not 100% sure. Maybe I picked that up on an another thread somewhere.
Anyway, of course, it's not like she's the most nonsensical squadmate to have in the series. There's Jack, a mass-murdering psychopath who is kept on a frigate, Kasumi, explanation unneeded, Morinth, who Shepard has no reason to think wouldn't go ahead and give a death by snu-snu verdict to another squadmate, and the VS in ME3, who moments before proved how they can't trust their future CO and pulled a gun on her.

This must be where David learned all of those professions, and skill sets.
