The Tali thread could never be repeated even if someone wanted to repeat it, simply because nobody is THAT MUCH into any character to undertake a chemical analysis of their fluids, save perhaps the guy who actually did that in the Tali thread.

It should also be pretty clear that what we've been saying is a joke, while it was pretty clear that the Tali thread was totally serious.

I mean, I could probably do it if you asked me to, but that would be on you and not me.

No, we haven't reached the point where our entire group was banned from the forum (yes, the talimancers were once banned from posting anything tali related in ye old BSN days) or the point where we make an entire site dedicated to one character (yes, when they were banned they made THEIR OWN FREAKIN SITE JUST FOR TALI. I think it was called talizorah.org. Yeah, they were weird. Trolling them was fun.)

Never understood why Tali was popular in BSN.
In the first game I always forget she existed, she was there only to give you a introduction of the Quarians and Geth, she had nothing interesting to say.

Best I can gather, it was because she was seen as the nerdy, naive virgin girl.

Oh the horror!!! I didn't know it was so extremed, but I knew a lot of it involved… liquid.

I'm not sure which is stranger and more surreal: that such a site exists, or that such a site exists and is still active.

You can't understand why the only two people (Tali and Garrus)  that stuck together with Shepard through it all were popular?

Both of the stuck with Shepard and were LI because they were popular in ME. I can see why Garrus is popular in ME, he was Shepard's sidekick and (along with Wrex) his bro. But I cant see why Tali was popular in ME, I undestand in ME2, since she was a old friend and a LI, but she was forgettable in ME IMO.

Not surprising since the site was meant to be their refuge when they were temporarily banned from making ANY threads on the forum (let that sink in. A group was so bad that the mods all decided to ban them from speaking on the forum). After the Miranda thread Civil War destroyed the Mass Effect character discussion forums and banned any mass effect character threads, they retreated back to their hole.

Her popularity really kicked in during ME2. Any old character becoming a LI or more meat on their backstory will make them popular, imo.

I was away from the BSN when that happened. I keep hearing about the 'civil war' thing, but I never saw any part of it.

And I say this as a huge Miranda fanboy.

"More meat on their backstory"

kek

Tali had no backstory to speak of in ME1. If it weren't for Liz Sroka returning to do the voice-over work and the artists making her redesign keep her old colors, one could mistake ME1 Tali and ME2 Tali for different people. It's almost as stark as the difference between ME1 and ME2 Garrus.

... I hate the 'go Team Dextro, go!' people.

She did have a backstory in ME1, but it was shown in her words and action, and not outright just telling her personal information to a stranger. Besides, some people first Mass Effect game was ME2, since I don't think the first one was on PS3. There were more opportunities  for them to actually like Tali, despite picking her up at the end of the game, <_< .

I'm more of a Jack's fan, really. Biotic Queen ftw.

You guys my ass, I didn't bring up any of that **** yesterday.

I, for one, am proud of my contributions to this great society.

Lulz, don't get me wrong. I was entertained. This is the only place on BSN I can constantly click the latest post time without being either bored, sighful, or nauseous.

As for this convo, Tali's got a few things that make her popular:

Virginity, fangirling, asskissing, and more screentime. This one top of her being an alien. Take any of those separately and you've got a thread. Put them all together with dextro amino acids and you've got a tale that will bring vomit to mind for the rest of your life.

Pretty much everyone was a walking codex entry in ME1. Ashley and Wrex were about the only ones I didn't feel that way about. Maybe Garrus, he was just a bit dull regardless.

Miranda Civil War? What is that? And why it was soo bad that got the entire forum closed?

About the reasons for the "Miranda civil war", the main problem was that people couldn't discuss different aspects of characters in different threads without the more specific threads vanishing down the forum history fast. Thus, people who were interested mainly in, say, romance were forced to interact with people who rather wanted to discuss another aspect of a characters and weren't interested in romance, and vice versa. Those who preferred light-hearted exchange began to resent people who posted serious and opinionated debate, while the latter resented an overabundance of OT and pictures etc.. etc.. Add a fanbase that was very divided along several issues plus some personal animosities, and things escalated to the point where one group didn't want to interact with the other anymore. Things got ugly, that's all anyone needs to know at this point, it's no use opening old wounds.

Similar petty infighting went on in a few other threads. The main cause of the civil war was heated discussions based on interpretations on Miranda's character. Some viewed her as a heartless shrew that deserved death while others viewed her as kind-hearted and willing to do whatever it takes to protect the people she cares about. Eventually the Miranda haters led by Taboo decided to make their own splinter group and started dragging the Miranda discussions onto other boards like the Liara and Tali threads. This was the last straw as that forum was considered to be a hive of trolling. Chris Priestly, the community manager at the time (he was kind of an jerk), finally had enough. After all the trolling attempts and the Miranda civil war trolling other forums, Priestly decided that enough was enough and completely shut down the forum and banned any character threads for the Mass Effect series with the justification that those threads would just result in trolling and more heated arguments. Thus, the Miranda Civil War was the straw that broke the camel's back.

This is so bad I just face palmed and scratched my nose...

I never really saw the interest in Tali or Liara tbh.  Sure they were likable enough but Liara was such a Shepard cheerleader.  And Tali...not sure never really liked her.  Ashley and Miranda ftw. :P

Priestly shut the character forum down because he hated the idea of it to begin with. Mirandalorians, as they are termed, just gave him a pretty convenient excuse. And honestly, none of that **** is worse than purple, breast-milk milkshakes, licking sweat, and drinking urine. Tali's fans were on a whole 'nother level.
